AdWords and url redirects

I wanna set up a campaign that would have 2 url redirects until the offer loads (my tracker >> affiliate link >> offer page). Should I bother setting something like this up on Adwords or is it a waste of time and won't be approved?

Tracking links are not accepted in adwords.
    Strictly No Url Redirects.

Read this for Adwords policies overview.

I wouldn't even touch Adwords without using a reasonably built out site, you need to make sure you have quality content and several pages (not just a single landing page)

Like the other have said direct links and simple landing pages are not allowed, and depending on the niche/ad copy could get your account banned.

I cannot believe someone up there said redirects are not allowed... heck I do it all the time.. don't you think if it was not allowed they would ban me instantly... they check your site all day long..
I have such a problem tracking the site since they won't allow me top put the conversion code on the site so to get the visitor IP I go to one of my sites and grab the IP and other data then redirect them to the original landing page... no problem..

I wouldn't even bother doing this. I wouldn't touch adwords unless you have a high quality site with lots of content.

I certainly agree with that.. but sometimes we just don't have a choice but redirect... good example is when you are dealing with a dumb host that will not allow the adwords conversion code on the site... and I know you say find another host.. .that is what i tell the thousands affected but the value of the host far exceeds the hanidcap of no conversion feedback.. so when we say NEVER do redirects.. we don't always have all the details... or the challenge..

And did i say the redirect (that I wish I did not need) had zero effect on my quality score as far as I can tell since most of my qs remain at 9-10.. occasionally I get a 7 or 8 but if there was any effect it would hurt them all....many folks use it to do third party split testing.. and that is fully approved by google... and any redirect is approved as long as your final resting URL matches the domain of the display URL.

  • Why are people saying that redirects and tracking codes are not allowed? They are! And it won't affect Quality Score because QS has nothing to do with redirects.

I think you may have missed the whole point... no one was saying redirects help or hurt your quality score per se... what I was referring to is that if redirects were not legal and allowed your entire dang QS would quickly go out the window... and maybe your whole site... so it can be correctly assumed that since I am stilll functioning perfectly with good quality scores.. that redirects are allowed... and if not legal.. then your quialtiy score won't matter anyway.. since you won't even be in the game...

But yes.. redirects can and occasionally will hurt the quality score... but not normally...
      1. Now you have to worry about two sites must be up and running 100% so that will affect QS if the redirect site goes down.
      2. With redirect its more likely of a slight slow down in speed.. and speed affects QS..

so yes just like almost everything else.. redircts can indirectly affect QS.. not the fact that you are redircting but jsut the fact that you have added more shit in the game to go wrong or slow things down..

  • I got the point, just re-inforcing yours.

Speed is a factor of QS but maybe 5% or less of the overall score so the impact of a slow site is not that great. I'm not sure if Google calculates this for the site once on the page (what I always assumed), not taking into account the redirects. Good point, one I never thought of before.
