Why You're Not Making Money Online

We all like readership, comments, likes, and tweets on our online content. It not only sends a flare to Google showing them the way to our content, but it's a searing tattoo on our minds that we did something right. It is like the painting on the side of planes, showcasing all the battles we have won, letting everyone know we are the new crew in town.

But if we were honest with ourselves we also like to know that we can make money online. So the question is why aren't you making money online.

I think the clearest answer to the question is that you don't have a solid business plan. But that statement is just a package waiting to be unraveled. It's like the scrolls of old. All dusty and rolled up, but when you throw it out on the floor, and it unravels itself, an entire new world opens up in your mind.

What I want to do is walk through the fields of ideas and help you discover why your not making money online. Hopefully something resonates within you. Hopefully something comes alive within your mindset that allows you to overhaul your mind. Or at the very least causes you to add some whitewall tires to your thinking.

You need to ask yourself, are You Selling Ideas Or Solutions

In order to make money online you have to peer inside your business model and see if you are pushing your ideas or solving peoples problems.

If you are selling your own ideas you could be receiving half a million visitors to your site every month and only walking away with $1000 with Adsense. All you are is a place for people to go while they wait for their boss to walk through.

But all that changes when you begin solving peoples problems, or teaching people how to do things.

I am a teacher by creation. I love to teach. but you dont have to be a teacher, I know guys who control over 400 sites. Trust me you can't be a teacher with 400 sites. But you can be solving problems. Whether people know the problem exists or not is another question.

Recognize that the Devil Is In The Details

Have you ever wondered where that phrase came from? (Here comes the teacher in me...wikepeida states) The idiom "the devil is in the details" derives from the earlier phrase, "God is in the detail;" expressing the idea that whatever one does should be done thoroughly; i.e. details are important.
No matter which phrase you like, the idiom is the same. Details, Details, Details.

The War Drums of mini-site creators scream out "speed is money." The more material you put up, the more money you make. Which is true.

Except for it takes me about 5-17 hours to write an article. But I spend just as much time syndicating and promoting that one article as I did writing it. So I might only get out 1-3 articles out a week.

Is one method better than the other. I don't know!

But the point is that each method demands you to pay attention to details. There are strategies, models, and things you have to do with each method. Ask yourself, which business model can I be faithful to for the next five years?

Now if you are serious about making money online, you need to pay attention to the details. There are a thousands of them swirling around all the time. Things we think about, things we seem to gloss over, and or things we never even recognize.

Never Stop Tweaking Your Sales Funnel

There is one detail you can not gloss over or ignore when it comes to making money online. Let me frame it in a question. What is the process that everyone goes through when they visit your page? Not only visually, but what happens when someone actually likes what you are saying?

Copy Blogger posted this a while back, they called it the chain of conversion. If you market a business online, several conversions need to take place:

• A stranger has to convert into a lead by being exposed to your message for the first time (in the online world, we call this traffic)
• A lead has to convert into a prospect by liking what you have to say (this is often done by opting in to your email subscriber list)
• A prospect has to convert into a customer by buying something from you
• A customer has to convert into a repeat customer by turning a single purchase into an ongoing buying relationship
You look at that small list, and you get the sense that this process takes a lot of details to flesh it all out.

What I find, and perhaps I'm even guilty of, is thinking that this just happens naturally. Or even worse, we think we are the ones who will be different and make bank and break the mold. Because we are just that good. But if you have moved through that stage and been humbled, then you might be ready to truly make some money online.

Here some things you need when it comes to making money online, because lets face it. Making money in a brick and mortar company is different than making money on the internet.

First Things First: Just Traffic Baby

Ok that is a play off of the one and only Al Davis, owner of the raiders who passed away. His phrase was "Just win baby". But lets face it, unless you are getting traffic to sales funnel, you wont make money. I will even take this a step further, you have to be getting traffic in a market that is known for spending money. Or in a market that people are willing to spend money. That's why review sites of physical products is so profitable.

Now in order to get traffic you will need...

Army of promoters: There are several ways to look at this.
  • You can build an army of social freaks who tweet and Facebook your stuff.
  • You can build an army of affiliates, who get money for selling your products.
  • You can build an army of great content, that gets sent out among the people and sells your ideas and products.

But no matter what type of army you build, it needs to be sending the floods of people back to your sales funnel.

More than Social Networks: I say this because some people abuse the system. People just spam the hell out of these networks and truly never build relationships from them. They are looking for backlinks and not real value from the network. Even if you had less networks, and more relationships, you would profit more from it. I know it takes time and work, but it pays off in the end. Build the proper army!

Fish In The Right Place: Have you ever been fishing? Now I like deep-sea fishing but this works in any setting. When we go out in the boat with a captain that knows what he is doing, we catch fish. Why? Because he knows where the fish are.

Now I can go out in the same water, same poles, same bait, and wont catch anything. Why? Because I did not know where the fish are.

Want to know why your not making money online...its because your fishing in the wrong place. You need to find the fishing holes that work for you. Dont go after sharks with a cane pole. And don't bring your surf rod to the pond.

Butter People Up: Let me make this clear. If people don't know you, they wont buy from you. You need to showcase what you know. People have to get to know you before they buy from you. So don't even mention whatever it is that you've got for sale. Go back to the law of conversion.

And for an added bonus, here are some other reasons why you are not making money online.

• Perhaps it is not monetized
• Perhaps the content is not good
• Perhaps the format is wrong
• Perhaps you dont ask people to respond
• Perhaps your business is all about you and not your tribe.

If you are serious about making money online then you must see this. Lee~Who is one of the good guys in marketing...gave me a link to a product I use and it sells for $997. If you use this link you get it for $5. This is the same system I used to build my business from the ground up. I have been doing it full-time since 2008...and still doing it exactly like he describes.

Hope that helps
