I've been seeing a trend where subscribers often don't end up confirming their subscription for double opt-in (if you use a double opt-in subscription system with your autoresponder).

I've also heard that it's because emails are often received late, though I've been receiving them pretty much on time recently. Autoresponder services are usually pretty reliable on this.

Here's some creative ways to get subscribers to confirm their double opt-in immediately:

1. Offer a bonus free gift or 'mystery gift' for confirming right now (probably the best solution available to email marketers. Many have reported have great success using this tactic)

2. Emphasize the benefit of getting the report in the confirmation email

3. Educate subscribers more on the opt-in process (why the subscriber needs to confirm, why you are using double opt-in and so on and so forth). Many Internet users might be less Internet savvy on the need to click on a link in your confirmation email to opt-in to your list.

4. Use all of the above methods to weed out all doubts about opting in

I'll be trying No.4 soon as I believe this works well for erasing the potential doubts in the subscriber's mind. As we all know, that is an important step in sales; to eradicate any doubts. It's what closes the sale, or in this case, the opt-in. Go try these out yourself and see if your opt-in rate explodes! It takes no more than adding a few sentences to your confirmation email or to your 'Thank You' page.
