Have you ever taken the time to think about why some affiliates excel and others flounder even when they're promoting in a similar way?
Have you ever gone out of your way to help someone get credit for your purchase? Why did you do that?
Have you ever seen (or been) a person who was upset by the idea that someone else was making money from their actions?
Bad affiliates spam people, misrepresent the products they're promoting, and make people feel uncomfortable about dealing with them.
Don't be one of these people!
Below are some steps you can take to improve your rate of success.
The How
While some people don't know about affiliate links yet, many people already do. They're becoming jaded by strategies that used to work.
It's easy for you to slap a link on a page and hope for the best.
Try implementing the following if you want to do your job better.
Tell your prospect what they need to do.
Much of the time we don't put ourselves in the prospect's shoes. It's not always clear how they should proceed when they're faced with your link. Telling them to ...
...is often more successful than not. At the very least, they'll often mouse over to see if it will be an interesting link.
Give them a reason to click.
Trying to take someone's contact info without giving them a clear reason why they should give it to you is a beginner's mistake.
Provide incentives for your prospect to take the action you want them to take! (Be sure to adhere to guidelines set out by your program or the industry)
Some great ideas for incentives are bonus related content, entry into contests and discounts on the product or service.
Build a relationship by "touching" the prospect before making the sale.
Spamming people with links isn't the most effective way to get clicks. If you don't have any credibility in the mind of the prospect, then you can't expect your word to go far with them.
If you take the time to add value first you'll be able to gain enough of their trust to be persuasive. Always give before expecting to receive or you run the risk of making people feel like you're trying to take advantage of them.
