In one ad group, don't place unrelated keywords together. Each ad group should have similar keywords. For example, 'make money on eBay' and 'how to make money on eBay'. Don't place 'make money on eBay' and 'eBay business' together. Rather, separate them into different ad groups. This gives you a better click through rate.
2) Use keyword tools
You can use free tools or paid tools to help you find profitable keywords. Good free tools include Good Keywords and the one over at Digital Point. Paid tools like Keyword Elite and Adword Analyzer offer deeper options for more advanced marketers. It's advisable to start off with the free tools and then 'upgrade' to the paid software once you are familiar with Adwords.
3) Use your keywords in your ad
You'd want to use your keywords in your ad, not only because the searcher will find it more relevant to click on, but because it also bolds your keyword, making it more noticeable. This really helps in increasing click through rates. You will also achieve a better Quality Score, giving you a higher ad position and a lower cost per click.
4) Use a low daily budget
Keep your daily budget low if you are just starting out. You don't want to overspend and find yourself in the red too early on. Become familiar with Adwords first, and once you are comfortable and making a profit, increase your daily budget. Don't lose your shirt too early in the game!
