Press Release and Publicity Tips
- ARTICLES |
2. Use your judgment when trying to get publicity from bloggers, podcasts and other informal media. Sending an email or making a phone call will likely be more effective than a press release.
3. Some reasons to send out a press release: launch of your business, new products or changes, joint venture partnerships, awards, events, fundraisers and more. Just remember to keep in mind why OTHER people want to learn this news.
4. When writing a press release, make sure it's newsworthy. Think about the media's audience and why they would want to read your story.
5. Just like with copy, your press release headline is everything because you only have a few moments to grab a reporter's attention. The difference is, your press release headline must be hype-free.
6. After your headline, the first sentence is critical in your press release. Make sure you provide a very succinct summary of the importance of what you are going to share.
7. Submit your press release to online newswires like prweb.com, but make sure you build your local media list as well. Submit to TVs shows, radio and more.
8. Sometimes you don't need a press release to get a reporter's attention. Write great and well-informed content and reporters may come to you for input on their next articles.
9. Don't submit a press release to any website or media outlet if they have another way to submit stories. Do your homework and find out how they want to hear from you.
10. Make sure your press release has your complete contact information and make sure you are available to answer your phone and email.
