Google Adding Ads to AI?

why do you think this will be different than the traditional ads placement? before you had them on top of your searches as promoted. now you get them into your responses.

There is a difference though. On Google Search, you expect ads at the top. With AI, you expect an objective synthesis of information. Once paid placement influences the actual recommendation, the core value of using AI over standard search is completely ruined.

"the best company" is usually just the company that worked the most on their SEO and presence, so its effectively the same thing just streamlined

Google was always going to monetize AI search sooner or later. The real challenge is making sure sponsored results don't reduce the quality and trust of AI answers. Users still want the most relevant information, not just the highest bidder.

It's kind of expected, since ads are Google's main business. I don't think ads in AI responses are a problem by themselves, but the concern is what you said, results should still be based on relevance and quality, not who pays more. If it stays clearly separated from the actual answer, it might be fine. But if ads start influencing recommendations, that's where it becomes an issue.

Plus how will they do this?

Will it be labelled clearly so people know that this is an ad?

Will they sneak it in?

We'll have to see in the coming days so people dont get upset with the results if they are just ad promotion.

Has anyone seen any ads in gemini or google search ai mode answers yet?

I've used Gemini in the past but not currently,
I had a paid subscription until I cancelled.

I don't remember why I didn't care for Gemini,
but I prefer other LLMs that I pay for better.

If you have a paid subscription, you won't get
ads pushed on you.

I haven't seen any ads in Google search and
that's probably because I use ad blockers.

You should give that a try.

It was kind of expected, but this is where it gets tricky.
If ads start shaping the best answer instead of just sitting beside it, people will stop trusting the results pretty quickly
Monetization is fine, just hope it doesn't turn into a pay to win search experience

Honestly wouldn't be shocked if the subscription model fails for AI engines as competition is growing. These AI engines soon start showing ad-based results down the line. Google basically runs on sponsored results already, so it feels like only a matter of time

It's disappointing, though not surprising. The whole point of relying on AI for search is getting unbiased, relevant answers without sponsored bloat. The moment paid placements dictate the recommendations, it just becomes another ad engine.

I think ads in AI answers could be useful for businesses, but the main concern will be keeping a clear difference between paid results and the actual answer. If ads are clearly labelled and relevant to the query, I don't see a major problem. From an SEO perspective, I think businesses will still need useful and trustworthy content because users may want more information after getting an AI answer.
