Hello everyone,
I have a client who has jumped the gun and ignored my advice on his domain name.

Although it has good elements to it; keyword and target location. He has a word which can be difficult to spell. We are talking Leicester or is it Lecister, you can see my point.

Unfortunately he has already started local advertising and radio media going with 'Leicester Golf Centre' so I may have to go with it.

My question to all you experts is: Should I stick with his original company name or shorten the url to maybe www.LGCgolf.com? My gut feeling is to go with the original even though we have an awkward word to spell.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like most or all of your client's potential customers are going to be from the Leicester area. They should know how to spell their location. I think the name is fine.

Thanks Frank, your right about the local area and as I said my gut feeling is to go with it.

However the owner is a world class golf pro and is also after a www catchment.

Still, I don't think there's really another option

Good idea for a domain name. Looks good and easy to remember.

May be hard to pronounce for out of towners but locals should be able to pronounce is easy peasy. Since they are the customers, you are good to go.

You could see how it goes with what your client has done and if you do run into issues later on, you could add a redirect to your suggestion.

The shorten version is a really good idea.

ignored my advice on his domain name
I don't understand the question of "should I go with it"...the client made his choice of domain name clear - so of course you go with that.

Search engines are smart - if you enter a wrong spelling....you still get the right location in a google search.

what is the existing domain name? does it have the name of the location? if so, it is an advantage in terms of search. Your site gets listed when location searched as well. The search engines are smarter to correct or give recommendations. You have mentioned the client has gone ahead in creating the brand awareness in the local media and it is recommended to retain it.

I think keep the domain but also consider another shorter/easier domain to allow for an easy redirect if needed.
