Hi Guys,

I have recently decided to try my hand at affiliate marketing (again) and I am looking to promote Sweeps in the UK.

I tried a year or so ago with limited to no success and came to the conclusion that to run campaigns effectively I would need to commit more time, effort and money to go through the process of optimisation and testing several offers. At the time I had neither the time or spare cash to go through this process.

I am now in a position to make a more serious commitment to getting successful campaigns running and thought I would try sweeps again as this is the area I have some experience in (albeit very limited).

I have tried to find some good threads to help me get started but struggling to find anything that is really helpful, and to be honest nothing that is getting me excited about running sweeps campaigns. This wasn't the case the last time I tried.

Would I be right in thinking that Sweeps campaigns have had their day in the sun and now don't work like they once used to, or am I simply looking in the wrong places.

Any hints tips, or advice would be hugely appreciated.

Look forwards to hearing your thoughts.

Cheers

It is a new day, a new dawn, and you shouldn't be feeling all Nina Simone about SWEEPS.

Here is a read for you, jump down to Page 52. Follow this up with some Googling...too much risk, better ROI for you with AD spends. FREE info is just as effective as Sweeps, and more targeted to boot.

PS. I have EXTENSIVE experience in Sweeps going back 30 years, and I wouldn't do it, but you have to decide for yourself.

      Hi Gordon,

Thanks for your reply, very interesting. I have to say I was surprised to receive an academic journal by way of reply but my better half is currently in the final stages of her PhD so I am used to the format.

Reading through the article, the main focus seems to be around the definition, compliance and operational side of running the sweepstake. This is actually of great benefit as I will also have my own sweeps offers. To give you some background, I previously worked for a marketing company and managed the websites that monetised the sign ups to the sweeps that we operated. Ultimately the revenue comes from lead gen and data generated durning the sign up to the sweepstake.

My question (I also concern) is that when looking on forums previously, they were awash with start up guides and follow alongs, pretty much exclusively focussing on running sweeps as an affiliate. That no longer seems to be the case.

My ultimate goal is to be able to work as a affiliate, specialising in sweeps as I have direct relationships with the majority of the offer owners and they are always on the hunt for good traffic. Simultaneously, the holy grail when running these offers is to be able to also operate as your own affiliate. Its a huge selling point when dealing with end clients as well as giving you the ability to scale traffic as and when required, focussing on the traffic that generates the best quality.

It all seemed like a great plan, but as the launch is fast approaching I am beginning to wonder if I have gone down the route of trying to push forwards with something that is coming to its natural end.

      Dave
