Don't know how much help I can offer directly, but I would say don't be afraid to jump in the pool. Anybody can build a following, anybody. Just make sure you're doing something cool or interesting (i.e. not taking selfies {unless you have the features that make these work...and you're a guy so...} or pictures of your food). If you're doing anything of interest, a following will start to develop.

You can play the follow/unfollow game for a while if you like, or hire out people to manage your social, but in the end I think these are fruitless (my opinion). Having 7000 twitter followers doesn't help me with much of anything, and I painstakingly built that audience myself, if I only interact with 20 or 30 of them weekly and maybe 100 with any regularity at all. My feed is always the same group. I would say, find a niche hashtag and start making friends would be better than playing "follow/unfollow." Same on FB, join a couple groups that favor your interests and participate a little. You can show off your cool-stuff to audicences that will eat it up, then a following will come. The less you try to market, the more lucrative the audience, because they will be people who care about you and what you are doing. This is one reason I've been selectively skimming the crap from my twitter following over time. Depending on what you do, also look at Medium and other networks.

As far as "someday becoming an affiliate." I'd say if that's what you want to do, then start doing it. There's tons to learn and it's going to take time, so build slow while you're building your following. Learn a little code. Get your hands dirty. Jump in. A simple website doesn't cost much to run, and time is a factor that SEO people tend to overlook. If there's a popular page on your site, Google will eventually notice you.

    good luck.

Um, why not? The more skills the more better.

Less is more. One shouldn't waste a moment learning or doing something not necessary or that can be outsourced.

Should a video maker learn code? Should a content writer learn code? Should a graphic designer learn code? Then we should someone that wants to be an affiliate marketer learn code? That's just plain silly.

What do you mean by "being verified?"

I suggest you start reading through the forum to get a basic understanding of how this all works. Also, mentors, whether they are actually worth it, or not - generally charge for their services. I doubt you will find anyone to mentor you.

Read, make a list of questions and then post them appropriately.

Also, be sure to read the forum rules, before you do anything.

    Welcome and good luck.

Ok, what are you going to do to generate interest to get people to follow you? What can you do or show that will get people interested and want to watch and interact with you? I'm not trying to be difficult, but you need to figure this out if this is the path you are trying to go down.

Who do you want to follow you? You need a target audience.

    What do they need?

How can you help them or offer them a solution to a problem?

Where are they? Do they hangout in forums? In Facebook groups? In prison?

Go to where they are and tell them how you can solve their problem. This can be through an ad, an email, blog posts, a Facebook group, Facebook ads, etc.

You don't need to be verified in anything. But you do need to offer something of value to a market that is willing to buy.

  • You don't need to be an expert to attract followers. Just take initiative to learn and when you learned something, you can apply it or teach other people who may not know about it.
