Do you ever get those days where you get traffic one day, you feel good about yourself then get none afterwards. Its really frustrating.

I suppose thats part of the process really.

Yep, you jut described this business very well. The only thing that is predictable about online business is how unpredictable it is.

You have to shut out the negative noise and keep forging ahead, doing everything you can do to improve your site, develop relationships and get solid backlinks. It's not a sprint. Success online is a long distance race that never really ends; you may win stages of the race but need to keep running or you will be passed.

Yes, I am in one of those moments now, where after things going fairly well for a few months, there has been a big drop during the last weeks which I have not recovered from, neither have I been able to understand the reason.

As Dave says, we just need to keep going and doing our best.

Yeah, I guess the only thing we can do is use that small bit of success and use that as motivation to keep going.

    Hmm.

If you guys are having a lack of consistency in lead flow, then you have to work on fixing that.

What I'm hearing so far is a passive, "laying back in the lounge chair" attitude that something else is going to do the work for you.

    Every business needs these systems:

    1. Lead generation

    2. Conversion

    3. Fulfillment.

As the founder, you should be doing everything you can to make those systems and their outputs consistent.

Do you have a money target? Or are you just trying to "make as much money as I can" (fool's errand)?

And from that can you back out to the number of sales you need to make...and then the number of leads you need to get?

Most 'marketers' on here don't count.

You need to do a little math, just a little, if you want to be successful.

If that steady stream of leads is not coming, if your count is a bunch one day and none the next, then you don't have a system and something needs to be done. You HAVE TO get that lead count you need into the system.

If you don't know how and are dependent on one idea only for traffic (as many 'marketers' are), then you'd better get researching and learning.

If your numbers say you need 20 leads a day to generate that 1 sale you need to meet your monthly money target...you go get those 20 leads by whatever means you can. THAT'S how you win.

WHAT??? And get out of my lounge chair? I got involved in IM for the guarantee of 'passive income.' Leave me alone.

Next thing, you'll be telling me it could take years of concerted effort and constant struggle to attain even a modicum of success. What a buzz kill.

I agree with Jason and in a very short statement...

You're simply not busy enough doing the right things.

From the post, I picture someone sitting in a chair staring at the computer waiting for the traffic number to go up by the minute.

If things have slowed down significantly, than you need to observe what's causing that and take action of the solution.

    Traffic doesn't just come.

Every day you should realistically be pitching, building relationships, adding to that funnel without breaks.

This is an every day must do no matter what.

You want a good example to mirror? Grant Cardone.

Hands down that man is literally doing all things to get his name, face, service, product EVERYWHERE.

At 60 years old this dude is a workhorse like no other, marketing the crap out of his businesses.

He is on every social media platform relentlessly grabbing all the attention he can get.

Whichever your platform is, you need to grab attention by any mean necessary (in the correct way, don't be foolish about it) every single day.

Spread value, exchange in conversation, look to build genuine relationships, and share your business with the world.

    Every single day.

I would also consider is this traffic converting? At the end of the day more traffic will mean zero if you're not converting to sales and gaining new customers.

All the traffic in the world can keep you excited, but if you're not gaining your losing.

I myself will have a lot of work to do once I get out there. I will need to get uncomfortable, learn, and take massive action.

Do not sit back and hope tomorrow there's more traffic.

Get up and go grab it. Give a solid reason why more traffic needs to come your way and when you do that, make sure you ask for what you want and close the deal.

Good luck on your journey. Embrace everything along the way.

Most of all, enjoy it! Don't get negative or down about things.

    Mike

It is frustrating is and the main reason why I suggest working online mainly to follow your passion. Because if you choose how to feel based on stats, your feelings become like a rollercoaster mirroring stats which fluctuate daily. Meanwhile the passionate person feels really good most of the time because the work - not stats - is the reward.

Of course, long term, passionate people become most successful too because they do all the creating and connecting that brings massive success.

Make no mistake if you are not getting consistent leads, conversions, sales than you either do not have a system and process or it is broken in one or several areas.

What are your sources for leads? Do you have both outbound and inbound channels and do you have SOPs that can be followed for working these channels?

What is your follow-up system and do you have SOPs for working this follow up system? Do you have a tracking method to see what is working and the process of what happened for the successes vs the failures?

What is your sales method? For a product are you running a webinar or at least a VSL? For a service what is your sales method and script? Do you have a call booking funnel?

As mentioned before you have to know your numbers then look at your process (you do have a process right?).

Ultimately you want to be the CEO of your business and not be doing the heavy lifting. Most of what I mentioned above should be outsourced sooner rather than later so you are mainly concentrating on sales (which you should be doing primarily, at least until you are at the 50K per month level), some prospecting and optimizing your system. You should have SOPs for each step of your process so you can easily train and outsource to a VA the things a CEO should not be spending time on.

To emphasize what Jason said above:
    1. Prospecting (Lead Gen)
    2. Sales
    3. Fulfillment

Those are the 3 main pillars of any business.

Again if you are not getting consistent numbers you either do not have a system and/or process in place or something is broken.

    Hope this added some insight,
    Cheers - Scott

All new business-starters, new learners have the same situation. High motivation at the beginning, then frustrated. The successful ones are the ones who can overcome the frustration.

I'd like to add that motivation is temporary.

Too many people think that having high motivation means it will bring them success.

It's actually a very shallow emotion.

Motivation can be robbed at any moment. It comes and goes as it pleases and most of the time it acts outside of your own control.

In the world of network marketing, you'll here some coaches ask beginners - WHY are you doing this?

What is your WHY for this product, this company, this vehicle, this business...

You need a deeper emotional attachment if you really want to see things through.

That is what pushes you through the negative, the frustration, the small failures..

Without a deep emotional attachment you will quit and move on to the next sunny object...

      Feeling motivated again...

      Having the same cycle.

      Motivation is not enough.

Motivation isn't what wakes you in the morning to go out there with courage to do what you want to do.

A deep emotional desire and attachment to why you want something will.

It's the burning fire within that will keep you pushing for success.

      Don't focus on motivation.

      Don't even consider it.

Keep your focus on why you're doing this in the first place.

And if you haven't gotten deep with your emotions or figured out your purpose, then take a step back and really figure it out.

It's much more than wanting six figures, a nice house, vacations, being your own boss, and material things.

Being a business owner isn't so glamorous. After the hard work of controlling your own paycheck, your bills, your medical insurance, your taxes, your debts, your innovations, your marketing, your strategies....

The reward for all that hard work and rugged persistence is when you start to see it worth it.

Many people seem to forget that this is not pure commission.

You need to set aside money for taxes, health care, etc aside from your lifestyle necessities and current bills.

It's a business. Nothing about being a business owner is easy.

It takes you working harder than you ever did. Harder than you ever worked for an employer and in the beginning- not reaping the benefits you think.

Expect to make less starting out. Expect the struggles.

But that burning desire of why you started in the first place will keep you pushing forward.

It's a long journey. Not a short term pay day.

Let's say right now at a job you're surviving making $40,000 per year... After taxes you're bringing home roughly $32,000 and your company has covered your medical already.

Well... As a business owner you might want to consider having to make at least $70,000 plus a year in order to live off of $40,000 a year after taxes and health coverage is paid for...

Don't think every sale is a commission...

You'll have plenty of your own overhead and expenses to get through first.

Don't neglect the learning and skills of being a business owner..

The running a business role and being your own accountant etc is equally as important as your skills in sales, networking, marketing, and customer service.

      Just my two cents.

Actually, it's not an emotion at all. It's a frame of mind that can be greatly affected by your emotions.

Yes but often times emotions are what spark motivation.

          Motives and emotions work together.

If something doesn't give you an emotional charge, you won't be motivated to go towards it.

Why do you think motivational speakers can be so powerful?

There's an emotional charge they are communicating in an intense way that makes others want to drive harder towards the end result.

Football players... They can become emotionally charged and motivated towards their objectives on the field.

If a team is losing, its up to the coaches to motivate them in a way that gets their emotions aligned with the desired result.

          No?

Something like success is not an emotion. Success is a state of mind.

Emotions come after what one feels is a state of his or her own success and believes they've achieved it.

Success can mean different things to many different people.

Motivation, ambition, desire... These come from emotional triggers or attachments.

Yeah internet marketing is so unpredictable. One day you've got more traffic than you know the next tumbleweeds.

I found the same with sales.

However I think over time as you grow things start to get slightly more predictable.
