What's the Biggest Problem Facing Newbies Today?

What's really stopping newcomers to internet marketing / working from home / making money online today?

For me it was always "overwhelm" .. too many choices, and where do I put my energy.
That, and when push came to shove .. when I did get something going, I never had the funds to promote it effectively.

Just curious what some of the roadblocks people face today are ...

I think feeling overwhelmed is part of it, which comes from unreasonable expectations. Learning IM takes about the same amount of study as a semester of college, IMO. Then once the learning is over, you need hands-on experience. If you're taking a semester of college classes and expect to learn everything in all of your text books in a week, you'll probably feel overwhelmed.

Other than that, I think the two biggest hurdles for newbs are cashflow and getting traffic that converts. Starting an online business is usually less expensive than an offline business, but it still costs money. Sure, you may be theoretically able to start a business with zero revenue, but it makes things even harder, especially for a newbie. And while building the business basic living expenses still exist. You still have to pay rent, food, utilities, etc.

The other big hurdle is the ability to get traffic that has value. And IMO, this is where the focus should be. I suggest newbs research the various sources of traffic, pick one that interests them and dedicate weeks or months to making it work, or not. Repeat.

The real problem for everyone is getting traffic. Newbies fail because they don't have a following and they want results fast. To build a following you need years. This is a long-term business. And newbies don't have money for buying traffic. That's why 99% fail.

I agree. And an offer that people actually WANT to buy. You can have the best traffic, but if you don't have an irresistable offer, selling is tough. Like you said, this is a long-term business. People expect to come online and make several thousand per month, right out the gate. It rarely works that way. You have to learn, pay your dues, and put in the work. Very few people are willing to do that.

You hit the nail on the head. I think you need a decent budget to start and continue building your online business. We are in an instant gratification economy and want results right away. While small victories can be had, the bigger picture is in the long-term. Keep at 'er kids!

I understand but I'm not sure I follow completely.. (because [paid] traffic is so easy to get)

So people are afraid to advertise? (paid advertising)
    or/and
people don't know how to brand effectively? (and therefore waste time & money)

It shouldn't be that hard though, right?
you should be able to pick something you love and something you're good at, no?

I just mean, "pink unicorns" might be a great niche but do I want to build my career on that?

It seems like most people jump right into the MLM, make money online or health niche. Those are all good niches, if you have a ton of experience and deep pockets, but the average new person doesn't have a chance.

I tell folks to pick a niche you know and understand, something not to big and not too small. I did well with my military niche (for over 9 years now) just by focusing on what I knew and understood.

I read a response somewhere else on this forum that said Affiliate Marketing should be called Relationship Marketing, and I know that my own struggles to make money online can in a large part be put down to failing to build relationships.... the desire to sell has clouded my thinking.... I have recently started to go back to the basics of building relationships first, demonstrating hge value and then and only them moving to promote products

The first problem is information overload and secondly, lack of tutor.
If you have a tutor it can save you lots of pitfalls and shorten the learning process.
I have seen people who have the resource not willing to pay a professional to
teach them IM and as a result never made it through.

IM is a skill like graphic and web design that needs to be learnt.

Some of the problems I have with newbies is that most just do not want to do any work and expect to send out a swipe file without changing it with a link and expect to make a lot of money. Now if people put more into it and changed the email gave a bonus of value and helped people you would make more sales. It is internet marketing not internet selling

I think it is self discipline. Newbies are used to having everything done for them. There are many resources that provide free and legitimate information on making money online. The problem for some newbies is to take it to another level that generates, takes work. The information to succeed is very prevelant online and sometimes can be overwhelming for newbies as well.

It is going to take a lot of learning, question asking, reading, to connect with legitamte programs that teach you the right way. So much misinfomration is prevelant along with old advice and programs that may have worked in the past but is now outdated. If your new, you are not going to know what is new and what is outdated. Your continuous education will soon lead you into a realm of understanding. Like lightbulbs going off in your head. Your going to look back and say "Wow, I can't beleive I thought like that before".

The information just within the Warrior forums can make newbies rich for free. Obviously not everyone gives the best advice all the time but the warrior forum provides free resources, tools, links, and information for anyone to suceed. Doing simple searches within the forum will help you to connect with people that your able PM , ask questions directly that you may have, and next thing you know your on your way to becoming an expert in the field.

You nailed it. Self discipline is vital if you want to succeed as an entrepreneur. When you work from home, by yourself, you don't have a boss looking over your shoulder telling you what to do. It's easy to work. It's also easy to turn on Netflix and do nothing for the day.

Thank you Chuck. Becoming self-disciplined is tough sometimes because we are taught and programmed to work for other people. I was one of those people when just starting out saying things to myself like "this will never happen to me". I used to think "why isn't everyone self employed"... "if I can do it anyone can do it". Then I realised some people like going to work for others.

Information overload just as you mentioned, not sticking with one thing long enough, actually taking consistent action, then just putting the content or business it out there without perfecting it, tweaking can be done later.

I think this plays a part, which then feeds into the cycle of "learning with no action", where people try to learn "everything" to make sure it's perfect for when they start, but then too many people just never end up starting and are done before they even begin.

Great question. I would say the problems for newbies.
1 Finding some one to let them promote for them. Unless it is via Clickbank.
2 TRAFFIC this a big one.
3 Understanding how to sell your chosen product.

    1. Employee mindset
    2. Lack of focus
    3. Unrealistic expectations
    4. No mentor
    5. Shiny object syndrome

Those would be the reasons I can think of.

When I first started I had the shiny object syndrome.I purchased affilliate programs and softwares hoping that all my selling woos would be healed but oh was wrong.

So for bewbies I would advise them to be patient ,learn ,test measure build.Get educated on subjects of interest and test out what you are learning before jumping ship to the next coach or program because there are sharks out here .

Having coached some newbies I think one of the biggest issues is fear of failure in combination with a need to seek out secrets and systems.

Very few beginners are willing to sit down seek out an affiliate offer and start coming up with new ideas and experimenting, there seems to be a need to seek validation from systems and gurus in what they are doing is right or that they are on track.

Don't get me wrong, following a plan is good if you are sure the person you are learning from is legit, but there is a chance they are not and they just plucked this information from a Youtube video, which is why I highly recommend using your own creativity as well as system or course.

I seen a post recently from a newbie saying they wanted to be like all those successful sellers on Warriorplus with huge stats, but how do you know they are successful, you have no idea what they spent or lost to get to that point or how many failures they had before that,

Bottom line, don't get disillusioned by systems, secrets and gurus showing big numbers. Work your own plan into the mix as well.

    IMO, three things stand out.
    1. No accountability mentor
    2. No good system to follow
    3. No traffic methods taught and/or fear to step out and get it.

If you focus on one job at a time 1 finding what area of affiliate marketing you want to go in 2 set up a website. or and facebook. 3 find a good product I only promote a handful. less work . Then traffic. That is the main part of the business traffic Just master one thing at a time it will come together

The genuine issue for everybody is getting movement. Novices fizzle since they don't have a following and they need results quick. To fabricate a tailing you require years. This is a long haul business. What's more, amateurs don't have cash for purchasing movement. That is the reason 99% come up short.

Overwhelming amount of info out there is a good one.

The one I see all the time and suffered from myself was quitting too soon. Often, we quit right before we see success because we think it should be instant.

The biggest issue facing Newbies is they tend to think Internet Marketing is easy enough you simply sign up for some offer or special membership and the cash just rolls in. The reality is you have to put in sweat equity, meaning learn, try and fail, learn from failures and adjust until you succeed. There is no magical turn key money machine out there.
