What to add to my marketing portfolio?

As you wish to acquire a job in the digital marketing field - I think it would be great if you could show a level of success in running a profitable online business.


It would not need to be anything major - just setting up a site and selling information products as video or ebook format.


This would give you confidence in knowing exactly what is involved and you would be able to answer questions about any problems that internet marketers have from experience.


From finding something that people want and are willing to pay for, to setting up a small website, with a landing page and squeeze page, incorporating the autoresponder into it.


Then the successful advertising campaign using free methods and SEO to some paid methods, plus using social media.

really depends on the industry and company you are applying to and of course the mentality of the people hiring you. in the business i used to work in optimove was kind of a standard for most companies. but also most companies used in addition their own custom built software for many parts of their crm and marketing. and a cv/portfolio mentioning wordpress and mailchimp would have been a minus points because it doesn't sound professional.

in general, when applying for a junior position, don't focus on software except for name-dropping big names and industry standards. rather show success stories and how you'd approach typical business challenges. and of course; at least for me it was always important; show your passion. whenever i sat there in the interviews or ac, i didn't expect a junior to know all the answers and how to use certain software. important was: does he know all the necessary basics, does he understand the challenges of our business, is he solution oriented, is he doing instead of planning, can he learn and is he spending his evenings on reading and learning and on becoming an expert in his field. in an ac i don't ask you how to set up a newsletter campaign in a certain software. i want to know how you identify the target groups, manage the budget, create and optimize the content, monitor and analyze, ... and ensure that i as your future line manager will get my bonus.

If you were to come in and interview with me.. what do you think the first thing I would look at would be? I literally do this with the person sitting right in front of me. In your case I would be looking at the 5 platforms you say you are proficient at. Rubber hits the pavement right then and there..

forget everything else... If your personal social platforms are weak, then what? what am I going to say? "Ill be getting in touch with you" and a couple days later you will get a form letter saying SORRY - as in your PERSONAL social media accounts were sorry.

A Resume is words... and what speaks louder than words? ACTION.. and the action in this case is what? The representation of the quality of work I would expect YOU to do for the job I am hiring you for - played out on your personal social media accounts.

You can have certs in this and that and the other.. and you can have knowledge if this an that, but if you can not SHOW ME the experience I would be hiring.. then I wont hire you.

The only thing that would be worth a damn for someone like you on a resume is all of your social media accts listed out. In writing this is who I am and what I know.. and these 5 right here.. this is a demonstration of what I am capable of.

With such a set of skills why do you look for a job ??? You are way ahead people who make a decent income and started without knowing what you know ! I don't think you need software or other skills... you need to upgrade your mindset. Do that, focus on building your own business and you'll be fine. Good luck !

If I were in your position I would be looking at the potential in PPC management. Once you have proof of ROI for a business from your PPC campaigns, then you can use it as a case study to close more clients.

When you walk into a business, they should be giddy with excitement about their scaling potential as you walk out. This is easy if you have numbers to show them.

I have different opinion.
It is better for you to have regular job, and at the same time you practice of becoming digital marketer. It means you start sell other people product for commission - online. Learn from expert in YouTube. Focus on specific business model like Facebook Ads, Google Ads, YouTube Ads, SEO, blogging, dropshipping etc

In a lot of situations, I tell people to "Get a job." In your situation, I'm wondering why you are looking for one. Why build someone else's business when you can build your own?
