What do you think of using your website name in your username?

Would it be wrong to use your website name in your username? I plan to join facebook groups and online forums and websites like reddit then answer questions and provide value and I was thinking instead of posting the link to my website in those groups would it be better to make my username my domain name.

What do you think of that?

If you try to post links in the groups you'll likely be removed from the groups. Many marketers 'brand' their name or product name but if the 'name' sounds promotional it may be labeled as spam.

Site name does not have to be the same as registered domain...changing domains means 'back to the starting line' and isn't necessary.

Thanks. Then for example if I was doing this in facebook groups you would recommend that I not use a username that is my website name? I originally wanted to do mydomaindotcom as the username. That is too spammy? If not that how about just mydomain as the username instead? I do not want to post links but I plan to give a lot of helpful information on there.

If not that then would it be better to log into facebook as the facebook page I make for the website and that username would be the website username and use that profile to answer the questions with?

You have existing persona's be it your web design company and your gaming stream. the question then becomes what is the universal denominator in these? I would assume its YOUR name.

Me for an example... I for the most part in regards to my personal business' I use 2 personas. This one, and one more branded towards my business. More so recently ( the past 3 years ) I use the business persona. Unlike me, you are a single operator.. and my suggestion would be to brand YOU as in <insert first and last name here> across each and every platform you can.

In regards to leaving links.. DONT... its really that simple. that is what your user profile on each platform is for. Trust me if you leave value, they will look at your profile. The other aspect of social media is to leave value on your own timeline. Because clicking your name out on social takes the end user where? to your feed.

A trick if you will when leaving comments on other peoples blog.. #1 use your name, and #2 When clicking on leave comment it will generally pop up a box asking for name and URL. and again DONT leave a link in the text. And again if you have left something of value, they will track you down. By either clicking on your name in the comment, OR searching your name on the web.

Lets use this platform as an example for you.. have you optimized your profile with a web url? a facebookk url? etc etc... The answer is no.

Simple rules of thumb when engaging out on the web on the assorted available platforms goes a long way, and the biggest rule of thumb is optimizing your profile when ever one is available.

      Hope that Helps!

You ask a question - it's answered - and then you keep asking the same question in different words.

If you think 'ketodiet' is a non-spammy forum or social media name - go for it. There is no 'right or wrong' - but you are trying to brand something you don't have. You don't have an informational site - or affiliate products - or a signup for a list - or...anything. You have a new - blank - WP page for your site.

    Back to basics.

You need a plan of action that sets timelines, goals and keeps you on track. When you are an internet marketer you don't have a supervisor/boss telling you 'do this first, and then this and then that'. The joy of setting your own schedule comes with the responsibility of being the toughest boss you've ever known... IF you want to succeed. Prioritizing, planning and discipline are traits we all have to cultivate to be successful online.

    My suggestion is this:
Make a PLAN and TIMELINE for building your wordpress blog, adding SEO, getting traffic.

Then post a detailed 'warrior path' thread and work that project consistently. Report twice a week what you have done and the results achieved.

READ the guidelines for the Warrior Path threads - read through a few of them to see how they are structured. It's a free way to get community help while you take the steps you need to take.

You are jumping to 'future problem/decisions' but right now you don't have anything to promote. You should focus on THAT one thing - creating an informational site with content that would interest site visitors. If you can't do that - you are in the wrong niche.

For example: Your 'plan' might be a 3 month timeline of creating XX blog posts week - creating a 'free report' to attract list signups - adding a signup form to your site and creating a series of autoresponder emails for those signups. Or you could choose a smaller initial 'path' of adding XX pages of content to your site in 60 days (just an example). Once that goal is completed - you could start a new 'warrior path' to detail starting and building a mailing list. A small, focused goal is best to begin with as each success builds on the success before it.

Members here will let you know if you are off track or go off subject - and if you don't work on your 'path' mods will close the thread. It's a good way to make yourself accountable and learn to work in an organized fashion.

Just an idea you might want to consider.

Thank you for the information. I was not trying to ask the same question. It sounded like in your first post that you were saying do not post links but that was what I was saying that I did not want to post links. I want to answer questions on facebook groups and on reddit and start building up value in those groups and instead of posting spammy links instead have my username have a reference to my website. That way instead of me needing to post a link to my website if people find my answers and the information I give valuable they may then look at my username and decide to look at my website. I know I have a blank website now but I want to go ahead and start building value in those groups while I am posting to my website because I think that will take time to build value in those groups and thought it would be best to start on that now instead of waiting until later on there.

I have read lots of great information from people on here and I do have a plan for the website. I was just asking about the username because I am setting up those things now at the start of this plan so I do not risk building a brand and then weeks later find out the social media names that are the same as that brand are not available. I like having the social media names the same as the domain and brand to make it easier for people to find it.

Thank you for the information on that warrior path forum. I will look into that and that looks like it would be a great way to document how things work out while I do it on there.

Thank you for the information. That is a good point about a way to brand myself. Thank you for letting me know about the profile on here. I do not plan to leave links on blogs or facebook groups that was why I was asking about using my username for that instead but it looks like both of you think that may not be a good idea. I mainly wanted to do it for facebook because I plan to answer a lot of questions on there and I want to use my keto website facebook account for that. I will think about it and use the information you two have given me when I think about how to do it.

On facebook specifically if you are going to outreach specifically for the Keto project then yes I would use the Keto user name. However that doesn't stop you from dropping a graphic from time to time on your personal timeline to join you and your journey of Keto on your keto account.

And also the reverse... Keep in mind this is a PERSONAL journey about YOUR experience and actual weight loss. opening yourself up "Personally" ( access to your personal account ) helps with TRUST and adds to your level of authority, and being authentic.

And then a step further... On your Keto account you want to reinforce you are just like your audience.. you play games and stream.. and you have a desk job. Facebooks for both of those would be suggested if you don't already have them. Ill say it again, because your story is so Authentic, it becomes leverage in all aspects of your life. USE the leverage!

Thank you for the information. That is a good point about putting parts of the different things that I have done on the different websites on there. I think you are right that the gaming and desk job is a good way to differentiate myself and the keto website and make it more if something people would want to read because it is more like what they do. Thank you.

As far as Facebook, follow the rules or you are likely to get everything banned.

An individual, using their real name, can have a personal profile.

That individual can open a number of business pages using different names. There is no tie in between the names or the page back to your personal profile unless you choose to.

For example, Joe Blow is your name. You have a Keto FB page called Lose With Keto and I think you said you were a web designer so you can have a separate FB page called Quick and Easy Web Design or whatever.

When you want to post in FB groups, though, whether it's a keto group, a marketing group, a web design group, or whatever you must join that group and post using your real name -- Joe Blow.

Now, could you break the rules and have different personal profiles? Yep. Lots of people do it. And lots of people get busted and lose all their hard work.

Just to clarify.. this is true under certain circumstances ( a group or page as an example may block this - but I have never run into it happening ). there is a method to creating posts and interactions from your other acct's You can look here to see how this is done: https://www.facebook.com/help/465690...f=uf_permalink

Before I posted the above, I double checked with a couple of groups I'm a member of. I guess they don't allow pages to join as members.

In light of your comment, I found the feature. It's up to each group admin as to whether they allow this or not. In the group's settings there are two options:
        • Allow Pages to request to join as group members.
        • Don't allow Pages to join as group members. Pages who are already group members will stay in your group. You can manage group membership at any time.
So, if the group allows it you can post as your Lose With Keto (or whatever it is) FB page.

However, to follow the rules you should still have one personal profile that has a number of pages with names you choose, and then post in groups as the FB page where allowed.

If it isn't allowed by the admins, though, you'll have to decide whether to post in that group as yourself or just not participate.

Thank you for the information. I had looked it up online and found that information about facebook allowing groups if the group admin allows it. My issue is I do not want to link my personal account to my business accounts. I do not want my personal information associated with my stream or business websites. I do have my personal information associated with my web design business though. One reason for this is with the stream there are issues where people may do mean things when they know a streamers personal information and I do not want anything like that to happen to me because someone found my information through an associated website.

This worry is really making it hard to market this to the best of my ability. I really like the tips savidge gave on adding the personal touch to the business websites but I really do not want my stream associated with the websites and the stream is probably going to be a good way to send people to the website with the ask me anything streams that I do. Due to this my plan is to have my web design business and my personal social media be the only two things liked on that arm of my businesses and then have my stream and the keto website and the groups I join for the keto website and different business websites I am working on for my internet marketing side of my business for affiliate marketing in a different arm that is not associated with my personal information or my web design business at all on there.

    Does that sound possible?

i think its not a good practice to do so and you will get banned as much as you do any wrong activity on your name as compare to domain name.

I do not think it is wrong. It is actually a very wise decision if you are marketing the business, because your website's name would be known and seen this way, it would make a recognition.

Forums and groups don't like this so I don't recommend you do it. It is unfair for others and it is very unproffesional.

If you are doing it right now, delete it and use your own name. If you don't, these groups/platforms will delete it for you and might kick you out for good.
