Starting a New Personal Finance Blog: Need Followers now.

I have recently started a new blog on personal finance.

I am just one large about page deep about my passion for creating the blog, and then my first post on changing even small behaviors and how positively that can change your future. I am wondering how I can start to get viewers. I spent a lot of time making a nice professional looking (in my opinion haha) website and writing articles now, yet still have no viewers. I am trying to write longer articles with good content that I myself would enjoy to read. I am making them personal with my stories and experiences, yet very informative on things I learned and how I would do them differently and the same. I am trying to use SEO in my posts to the best of my knowledge. I am currently sharing on my new twitter with relevent hashtags with little benefit yet.

I know I need to continue and I plan to. I only have 1 post and hear that you hopefully will continue to gain traction the more solid posts I put out. It is just hard to get motivated with no viewers. Even a small handful of viewers of my content would help.

Just seeing if there is anything I am missing or how normal this is...(edit)

Thanks in advance, Zac.

Well, you've chosen to compete with giants.

If the idea is making money, I suggest you re-think your approach.

Just seeing if there is anything I am missing or how normal this is..
It's completely "normal." The Internet is littered with many thousands of blogs that never got a single reader. Expecting a one-post blog and new Twitter account to generate any traffic is unrealistic, at best.

Here's your best bet to getting viewers....

On the long term: SEO (i'd advised you visit on top blog on the topic like (detailed-dot-com))

    On the short: Paid Ads

You're on twitter? Use their paid post ads, also use fb ads, create a fan page and promote your articles by boosting your posts!

Nothing is impossible! These days you can go against top blogs if you got a nice decent budget and some skills .... create your own audience bro!

    PRO TIP:

Add your unique voice to your whole website's, viewers are drawn to personalities and will visit again if they like your voice!

Curate top popular personal finance articles of the day - and advertise them! This will get you more traffic, if you're getting traffic, your website needs to be able to monetize them or add them to your mailing list.

Yes, it's competitive, so you need to do some work . . .

the best article length for SEO currently is around 2,400 words. So make sure each of your articles is around that length. And make sure each has a high-quality promotional image, making them easy to share on social-media (include social-media share links on each blog post).

Write lots of great blog posts. Share all of them on social-media . . . find relevant FaceBook Groups and share them (with high-quality images or video), and make a FaceBook Page to promote them.

Create your own FaceBook Group about your blog subject, and manually invite 30 people a day who've posted on other relevant Groups. Offer a valuable free gift for joining your group. Post links to your blog articles, and ask questions to encourage engagement (the better your engagement, the quicker FaceBook will grow your group for you, and the more people will see your posts).

Create a YouTube Channel and make a short video about each of your blog posts, with a link at the beginning of the description.

Create a Pinterest profile for your blog, make relevant Boards, share other people's Pins, join relevant Group Boards (find them on PinGroupie, and follow the rules). etc.

Add your blog to your LinkedIn profile and promote it in the header image and title etc. Post links to your articles in relevant LinkedIn Groups.

What the above actions do are to both get you direct visitors, and to create high-quality back-links, which improves your SEO.

Make sure you build a mailing-list, so you can email people . . . that's a much more efficient way of making a profit than doing so on a website only. So give them something of value for subscribing to your list. Then promote things of value to your list . . . high-quality webinars are a good example, because they give genuinely valuable free information (before pitching a course), and can convert very well (i.e. you make a great profit, and your list subscribers are happy).

Yes, it takes work to do this successfully

    Hope that helps !

    Chris

    Zac,

Rome was not built in a day, and either is online traffic. One post is simply not going to do it... UNLESS you already had a pre existing social media presents and could draw traffic from there.

A suggestion... or 2. Your first post is about changing behaviors. I would write a post on each change you suggested in that first post, and go deeper on each one. As you complete each of these I would link to those Micro topics from the first macro post. I would also link the micro topic posts back to your Macro post. Following me?

This is how you can easily multiply content and stay in context in terms of overall topic of your blog. 1 Macro post, and then multiple micro posts, over and over.

My 2nd suggestion... Each of those micro ideas... Could you create a piece of TikTok content related to them? Something like saving your change as an example: a young person putting pennies in a piggy bank, and then a old person long grey beard throwing bills around like its water ( Making it rain ) with something like $ave Dat Money by lil dicky... or

    Hope that Helps!

  • Rethink everything you are doing. I mean, you have one post and already are struggling to motivate yourself. Alarm bells should be ringing.

Paid traffic. My latest blog has 30 posts and probably 45k words, in a way less competitive niche, it's been 1 month and I get maybe 3 organic search clicks a week. It will take me months plus backlink building to get real traffic organically. In the finance niche, it's insanely difficult.

Blogging is still a good way to make money online, but it takes time and patience. Google takes its sweet time. Something you can do is research young websites that are in your niche and are ranking in page 1 or 2. Visit them and try to figure out what they're doing right.

You can definitely make money blogging, but again, you have to pick a niche within your industry.

    Happy blogging.

personal finance is a huge field. im not interested in personal finance. i might be interested in repairing/raising my credit score. i might be interested in investing in gold, bitcoin, retirement planning, pay off credit cards, lower my credit card interest rates, or get an equity loan. go into a smaller niche that you can monetize in some way. someone reading your article on 1 topic related to bitcoin will be interested in another bitcoin related article, but will not be interested in retirement saving. if your niche is too broad, you wont be able to monetize it well. my test for your business is simple. if you send paid traffic and can't profit, you dont have a business

Am I reading this right that you have only one post on your site? If so then focus on creating more content before anything else.

Others have touched on this and I will re-iterate...if you have one post and are struggling for motivation, you need to re-think what you're doing. The whales in any online marketing or blogging space are doing what they do because they LOVE it. They do not wake up and write a post to get more followers. They write because they love the creative process.

You mention you are writing about what YOU would want to read. I don't think anyone mentioned this, but that's NOT how you create a following. Who cares what YOU want to read and learn about? If you want followers, you need to figure out what others what to read and learn about. Research trending topics on social media sites, reddit, quora etc.

Finance is too broad of a topic to blog about. Narrow down your advice and solve problems for people. That's what people go online to do. They want answers to their questions or problems. Be that resource for them, not you. You're assuming everyone is interested in what you're interested in and that's often not the case, sorry

Summary: write more posts (A LOT MORE), and find out specifically what OTHERS want to read or learn about.

" It is just hard to get motivated with no viewers" I agree! That's why when I first create blogs I post at least 4 times a day just to see results faster. Try to post as much as you can and of course your posts need to be good and what people are searching for.

Usually most traffic comes from search engines so I would concentrate on that.

You wrote one post, you tried to add a SEO basis in that article but your not sure and its about what you like, and you have no visitors and now your down in the dumps.

You should be very happy that you worked this out at day one, I have watched people write crap for a year before they work out that nobody is following them and that they are wasting their time. your 364 days ahead of most people, look on the bright side.
