Feedback from potential affiliates

Some may say I have done things backwards....but I've written a 220-page ebook, edited it, and packaged it up neatly into a PDF with a pretty cover page. Now that I've sunk hundreds of hours into it, I I want to make a couple of bucks out of my efforts.....which means I'm going need to find some affiliates to promote it, and I also need to make sure it's priced correctly.

I know I should have probably done this research before I even started, but to be honest it was a passion project that escalated so I never really saw the need to!

Any suggestions where I turn to get some constructive feedback from successful affiliate marketers, and maybe even establish some affiliate relationships?

    Hello,

You made a very big job, 220 pages is a lot and if the content of ebook consist of high-quality material, you could make some nice money.

Maybe you should start building a list?
Why not give this ebook for free to people for the email address, so this way you would build a list, people will read your high-quality ebook and they will love you. Build a list, create a good relationship and sell affiliate products in your niche.

That's a good idea! Maybe I could just give away the first chapter (as well as my blueprint, which is a cool 5 page summary of the whole book) so that I can still sell the ebook as well. Thanks very much for the thought-starter

Yes, giving away the first chapter, to build an email list, is a great idea.

If you want to list it on Amazon Kindle, you can list it for 99 cents (the minimum you can list for, unless you use Select, which is exclusive for 90 days), with a downloadable bonus to capture email addresses.

Promote the free give-away on relevant social-media channels (FB Groups etc.), and there are plenty of FB Groups for authors where you can list a free or cheap ebook and get some interest, plus other platforms for giving away free ebooks (ask on the author FB groups).

Hope you get good results with your ebook!

    Chris

Thanks Chris....you don't happen to know the names of any Facebook Groups for this sort of activity do you? I joined one recently (I think it was the 'Work from home' affiliate marketing etc one) and it's a lot spammier than I'd hoped!

If you want affiliates to promote (affiliates who can actually make sales) you will need a proven track record of conversion, EPC, and refund rates.

Without this data, no serious affiliate will touch an untested product.

Is there a way to prove this to the good affiliates? Like keeping some funds in escrow to show you don't have the intent to not pay out?

You have a rough road ahead of you... build a list they say... sell your book they say... That's all fine and good but that's really not how it works... I say.

From the perspective of joe internet user... Who are you? WHY should I buy your book and believe the words contained inside? WHAT have you GIVEN to show you are an authority on whatever subject you are covering?

Right now you are functioning with the idea of what's in it for me... I did all this work.. now I want to get paid... BUT you haven't done the work to get there. THIS is why most marketers fail.

IF you are going to build a list and sell your book, giving the first chapter away Is a bad idea. YOU - the author of the material should be able to create a lead magnet that parallels the book content and ads value. Value = trust, and from there you can sell the book.

But lets go a step further because you are looking at the micro of today selling your book and not the Macro of tomorrow then what? IE You build a list to sell the book then what? Sell crap because you now have a list and the money is in the list they say? The money is in the list if you have thought this through past today and moved beyond whats in it for me.

So what do I suggest you ask? I would do whatever formatting is needed to get the book on Amazon. Having your book listed on Amazon creates an amount of Authority. Its that added step that places you as an Author and Authority on whatever subject above and beyond all of the other crack heads trying to sell info products in your market space.

I would create a branded website ( preferably your name .com ) and start developing content that you start sharing and developing community around the Niche that your book falls under... creating Authority, and Trust with like minded people. All the while you can have links to your book that's on Amazon.

I would start working on Book #2 as in Yesterday... I would start thinking about worksheets or whatever else could be of use in relation to your first book. Is there the possibility that a simple app of some kind could be created to companion the book?

Do you see how this is transitioning from what's in it for me, to how can I help the people that buy my book better understand practice and succeed with the books information?

I suggest stepping back... looking at what you created and visualizing and understanding what step 2 and 3 and 4 are down the road ( The Macro View ) of this will be. Start implementing VALUE and creating a list of people that are interested in what you have to SAY vs what you have to sell.

    Hope that Helps!

      I take your point...

To explain my background and current state a bit more; I have a blog called TheFreedomChaser.com which is intended to be my 'authority-portal', which I'm turning my focus back to now the book is finished. I also have a reasonable Instagram following using the same handle.

I launched my first blog 15 years ago and later sold it to renovate my home.....and my day-job is leading the digital marketing for some of the world's leading surf brands. So I feel like I'm an authority on the the 'lifestyle meets internet' space. And I'm already writing my second book too.

So, all due respect, but I'm not just trying to cash in on a short-term whim....I've worked my ass off for years, and am looking to achieve a milestone of selling just a few copies of my book, because after 2 years of writing I think it's only fair that I could expect a coupla bucks to roll in before I focus on the next phase. In fact, I think I deserve it!

I have written a short 18-page ebook about online marketing, which was designed to be a lead magnet from the beginning. So I want to give it away for free in return for the prospect's email. Within the free ebook I give valuable tips and show a solution and at the end I promote a blueprint, which is an ebook I want to sell, after the prospect has read the free ebook.

I am also wondering where to get feedback for my book, before I start offering it for free. To look in related FB groups is a good tip. Thefreedomchaser, which steps have you taken so far to get feedback for your book? Have you already started selling it or giving it away?

After I got some feedback for my book, the next step will be driving traffic to it and choosing a platform to give it away or sell it. Amazon is probably suitable for this, since it has the potential buyers looking for it. But before I put my ebook on Amazon, I want to test how readers like it and find it helpful.

Since my ebook is online marketing related, I was hoping to find some experienced warriors here in this forum, to get some feedback for it. I will probably start a new thread for this purpose.

      Good question!

I actually decided to offer my book for free to friends through my personal Facebook account. The gesture was well received, and I've had some helpful feedback too.

I'm still struggling to sell my first copy, I've dropped the price from $47 to $17 which sounds significant, but was a lever I was always willing to pull.

I'm also running Adwords to try and generate direct sales, but to be honest, the clicks are just shy of 50c and aren't converting to sales....so this doesn't seem sustainable right now.

Let me know how you go, I'm more than happy to share what I'm up to, and what's working, too!

I agree with this - start building a list. Give away a small portion of your PDF. Like above, 1 chapter or 1 tip, 1 method, etc.

The absolute BEST thing you can do is build an email list.

Now - a few things... 220 pages can be quite a bit of info to absorb for most

without knowing what niche you're in, I may even say that you could break that entire 220 pages up into a few product levels :

a front end offer to get buyers on your list - maybe $5-10 product
an upsell that will teach them more - $25-40 product
premium option which will give access to all for $75-100

again, hard to say without knowing what niche it is
