My own first mailer

Hi everyone, i´m new here and need some help
I am thinking on creating my own mailer to start a small business
The mailer will give people oportunity to share their business and at the same time i will be building my email list.
Can someone give me some guidance on it?
There are sure companies that sell it and give support with script and download etc etc....
I apreciate much your help
