GoDaddy?

A .org domain expired in September, I registered it in January and we're slowly adding content to our site. The name is nothing special, sixteen letters, very unusual actually, but it fits with our content.

GoDaddy contacted me via the registrar, apparently on behalf of a third party, to purchase the domain in March. They offered just a couple of hundred bucks.

I replied thanking them and mentioning it wasn't for sale and heard nothing until yesterday when they significantly increased the offer to low four figures.

Is GoDaddy legit for these transactions?

What's the protocol?

    I have never experienced this. Let me ask around but they shouldn't be calling you giving you such offers.

    Godaddy is in the business of registering domain names.


    If I go to them to register a domain, they tell me if it's available. If it's not, they say it's not. And they, at least some times, offer to act as brokers.



    So, if you want to register TheDude.com, for instance, they tell you it might be available and there's a broker fee of $119.


    If they convince you and that outfit to agree on a price, they get their broker fee.

    It is a legit service from a legit company that I don't like or dislike.

    Why wouldn't GoDaddy, one of the oldest and
    widest known registrars, be legit? Among other
    things, they are domain brokers as DABK has
    detailed above.

    Someone that wants your domain name asked
    GoDaddy's services to contact you. Now you
    need to decide whether that domain name is
    worth more to you than what is being offered,
    and whether it would be wise to sell it and get
    something else that is similar. You could even
    try to get a little more for it since the buyer
    seems to really want that domain name.

    If you are just starting out, take my advice and
    sell the domain name, take that money and
    parlay it into more domain names. That's
    what I would do.
