Hello Everyone,
I am new here, I have been trying to learn more about affiliate Marketing since earlier this year when I had a heart attack. Any knowledge i gain from this forum will hopefully get me to the point where I can support myself again. I have been told that finding a mentor is the way to go, unfortunately financially that is not an option. So I am asking what is the best way to learn affiliate marketing as a Beginner.

Sorry to hear about your heart attack. I'm glad that you have recovered from it. If i were you i would start by watching Youtube videos on affiliate marketing, or find yourself a basic book on affiliate marketing. This way you can hear, see, and watch affiliate marketing being taught to you all at once.

The nice thing about affiliate marketing is that someone else has created the product. With some research and using tools available out there, you can further find out if that product has actually sold. You want to find this out because a product that has already demonstrated a message-to-market fit is better than a brand new one.

Your job as an affiliate marketer is to attract people who are likely a good fit to buy that product: they have a problem that it solves. In return for this effort, the product creator gives you, the affiliate, a commission when a sale is made.

Ideally you don't want to be promoting something that is incredibly well known and available from many other people and places. While from the message-to-market fit standpoint that sounds good, it also means that your competition will likely be steep. "Everyone else" will be offering that same product, so why should someone buy it from you? In that situation you have to start looking at bonuses or other ways of adding value.

Instead, I would look for a product with a proven track record, but is still somewhat new and not that well known. You also want something you personally believe in and understand.

As an affiliate marketer, you will be finding places online where your target market gathers. This is the hard part of the job. Where are they? You could make a Facebook group about the product and try to pull people in there. You could find them in someone else's group (but make sure you don't break their rules in promoting). Or they could be somewhere else.

Your job is to get those people from wherever they are to some place you own, like a web page that has an opt in or signup form on it. This gets them onto your email list, so you can continue to market to them. You had better have something interesting to give them in exchange for signing up: a report, a Top 10 list, a short video series, something like that.

Then you can follow up with emails, some stories about before/after or using the product, some educating about features of the product, some with other kinds of related content, some with actual links to the product's sales page. This is another nice thing about affiliate marketing: the product creator has made the sales page for you.

Common mistakes I've seen people make over the past decade include:

    - sending cold traffic immediately to the product's sales page, without capturing the lead or warming them up with an email series (wasting the effort in generating the lead)

    - letting the lead see the sales page only once, instead of giving them numerous opportunities to "hop" over there and see it when the timing is good (someone may well be interested, but they're sitting at an oil change shop waiting for their car to be ready, and while they're reading the sales page the attendant comes over and says the work is done. They close your sales page because it's not the right time and they're back to being busy now. If you give them the link again later, they could still buy--and many marketers don't do this, having sent the lead there once and figuring that's enough)

    - not knowing or caring enough about the product themselves, so they can't make personlized content to warm the lead up based on their own experience and enthusiasm

    - not understanding their money equation or real money target, believing bad thoughts like "It's easier to make a lower dollar sale than a higher ticket one" or "I'll make a zillion $5 sales"--no, it doesn't turn out that way and you'll go broke waiting for those $5 sales to come in. Understand the game you're playing and what winning means before you start..

Let me be crystal clear: this is a job. It is work. It has numbers and math. It has advantages in that a good product is proven to sell and relieves you from having to put in the time and effort and money in building a funnel or conversion tool...but that does not let you off the hook of doing work. Like being a plumber or electrician, there are skills to learn and you have to get it right. If this scares you, don't start.

Finding good prospects, rather than simply shoveling everyone who comes along at the sales page and then wonderign why they don't convert into sales, takes time and effort. It is a skill you will improve on with commitment. At the start you will suck. Make no mistake: you will be discouraged. But when you get the $500 or $1000 or even a $50 commission payment from your first sale, nothing will ever take the place of that feeling of success.

So sorry to know about your heart attack, Hope you are doing good now. Yes you have been told right, mentorship is the shortest way to success not only in affiliate but in any kind of business but as you are short of cash then i would advise you to make google/youtube your friend. WPEagle, IncomeSchool , Ahrefs are some of the channels where you can learn the ropes of affilaite+SEO and start implementing. Hope it helps.

You are right with a mentor it would be much easier and better.

However, as others have said, there is a lot of information available to you for free.

The problem here, however, is that you could be like me when I started and have no idea where to even begin, who to believe and that you quickly suffer from information overload and everything becomes too much for you.

To avoid this I recommend you to look for a trustworthy source, possibly even here from the forum, which teaches you the right things from the beginning.

Not everything costs a lot of money. There are also good books on the subject or inexpensive courses.

It is important that you understand the essence of affiliate marketing and learn on which few but important points you need to focus.

    Good Luck.

If you're trying out affiliate marketing as a beginner, then start with a friendly affiliate marketing community where people are selfless and are always ready to help others solve any problem they may encounter in their business.

Also, prepare to have the right mindset from scratch, setting a money goal that will always keep you on track no matter what the challenge you might be facing in your affiliate marketing journey.
