What are your best sources for learning marketing?

I'm curious to know what are for you the best knowledge sources on marketing to:

1-Learning online marketing: When you started and nowadays
2-Keep your skills sharp
3-Discover new trends and useful tools.

Personally I used Mike Dillard List-Grow in 2017 to learn about building a list fast while making money and it worked really well in the crypto-education niche, then I unplugged from gurus for a long-time,

What about you? ^^

Yess, WSO it's amazing, I learn everything I needed to start my online journey there...The problem is I get too many things and I tend to get overwhelmed haha

Any particular brand or marketer has stood out for you?

I study Dan Kennedy. Been a student of his over 10 years now. Dude is old school, but is a marketing legend. Marketing is marketing, whether you do it online or offline. The approaches are quite similar, even if the medium is different.

I also like Gary Halbert, Mike Dillard, and Frank Kern. Learned a lot from those gentlemen.

Awesome! I know all of them except Gary Halbert, I'll check him. I always get a smile when I think about Frank Kern, pretty funny style

  • If you can put on your fluff/trash/spam/nonsense filters (it still is there no matter how hard we try to keep it out), this forum is a 20+year goldmine of information. I use it but I know who to follow and trust because I've seen their forum interaction over long periods of time.

I also learn from Digital Marketer (Ryan Deiss), Sean Mize, Jimmy D. Brown, Rachel Miller, and a few more. I've been having to cut back on my learning resources to get rid of the learning overload, though. So, I'm deleting and unsubscribing from people I don't actively follow.

100% In my short time here I have seen some real golden nuggets from some of the members...The ability to filtering gold from the straw in a really crowded noisy space is key. And it becomes truer every year.

In spite of that I see from this thread that some of the old rockers are still the reference for many of you today, like some of the rockstars or sport GOAT's!

I also learnt a lot from Ryan Deiss, I don't know the other three but I'll check them out, thanks

Aside from giving excellent information, products or/and services, there's an important factor that is how a person and his/her message and communication resonates with you! Tai Lopez can give excellent knowledge (Kidding ) but you resonate more with Mike Dillard/Frank Kern/Ryan Deiss or with one of the awesome warriors of this forum

There are many great sources for learning marketing. Some of the best include books such as "The Millionaire Fastlane" by MJ DeMarco, articles on websites such as Forbes.com, and audio lectures by marketing professionals such as Jay Baer. However, one of the best ways to learn marketing is to simply apply what you learn and get feedback from others. So start small with a few guerrilla marketing campaigns or social media initiatives, and then ask your friends and family how those efforts worked for you. gauging the effectiveness of your marketing efforts will help you better understand how to make your marketing dollars work harder for you.

I found the best way to learn anything is to jump in and make mistakes. So I guess experience. It does help too use other people as a guide and ask for help but at the end of the day you got to sow your oats.

Yes, there is no substitute for our own experience, our uniqueness means that we need to find our own way, it's not that easy as following a recipe because we all are not interested in the same things, we don't have the same circumstances or abilities.

However, starting with objectively excellent sources and tools can save you a lot of time and hustle. When I started I learnt from Mike Dillard and Ryan Deiss and I got to 16k$ a month in 6 months, that would have been impossible without a good guide :O

One of the best resources I use all the time is Neil Patel. Yes, he's a bit more SEO but still heaps of marketing tips that you can implement immediately.

I'm familiar with him, specially on LinkedIn, he is a machine of producing good content! As a funny note, I was approach from a subsidiary company of Neil Patel that wanted to buy my business (I guess they wanted to get their heads into the sector of crypto and blockchain)...Sadly it didn't go through because we were below their minimum profit numbers, $30k a month...Ouch!

You should know Your Customer, Understand Which Platform Your Customer hangs out at.
Know Your Message/Offer. Hustle, get your message out. Optimizations based on data feedback, persevere, nuff said.

    No need for marketing sources..

Well, I know there's no substitute for your own experience in the field, I agree with you on that, but a good guide can help you a LOT, between 2015 and 2017 I didn't sell a penny; thanks to a course on list building I got to $10k a month in less than 6 months...Paying for services or products is good as long as you do your due diligence on the provider and you don't fall into the shiny object syndrome or paralysis by analysis

Social media is a gigantic ocean of information amigo, that's almost like saying: Google as a source

Which platforms, which authors, topics, etcetera?

For example, I know some good authors to learn from in Twitter to learn about business:
      (Hormozi, JKMolina, Dan Koe...)

And another bunch in LinkedIn to learn about crypto in Spanish: (Alfredo Serrano, Jesus Herencia, Alexis Texeiro...)

      What do you recommend?

When I first started I studied Yaro Starek for blogging and John Jonas for VAs/Outsourcing. I still use John Jonas's info for hiring VA's and have had a lot of success with that.

For IM now, I've been reading and implementing Russell Brunson's Secrets Trilogy of books.

To stay sharp and up to date, I come to this forum. Seriously...I'm a bit "done" with the guru format of just following someone else's steps, so I'm trying to branch out and chart my own course. So I came here to see what real people are doing, not what some guru says he's doing, so I can collect ideas and assemble my own plan.

John Jonas for VAs/Outsourcing, really great, I didn't know about this, but I started a thread a couple of days ago asking precisely about this topic.

Regarding the second part I agree, there comes a point in your life where you have to walk your own path and create your own recipe for success. Most, if not all of the tips here, have no agenda and that should help you on your way when you find yourself stuck or blocked or you need resources, ideas, insights, etcetera.

Really? I'll have to go check out your other post and if I have enough posts made on my account, I'll post on that thread as Ive been implementing his program and advice since 2012 and have some experience with that.

Thanks-I agree....it gets to a point where you just have to do your own thing. I notice a lot of the gurus got successful 5-10 years ago, and the internet was just a different place back then. So they don't always understand why their students aren't getting the same results and instead blame the student for being a "quitter" or "not taking action enough". ( I was in an amazon fba program where they did that....still grinds my gears, lol). Someone posted an article about Neil Patel on here and it was very refreshing to read him admit at the end of the blog post/the challenge his surprise at how much less of an impact doing the same work yielded 5 years later.

Don't get me wrong-I still firmly believe there's a boatload of opportunity to be found on the internet, it's just I feel we gotta be even more careful about vetting which gurus we learn from now, as its a very fine line between picking someone who's "done it before", and has the timeless principles down, and someone else who yes-has "done it before" but is outdated and who succeeded in a different internet environment than we are facing.

Yeah, one needs to be careful with that, sometimes is better to learn from someone who is a couple of steps ahead of you than from someone who made millions 5-10 years ago and now is riding that wave with all the built assets. Foundations are always the same and they are key to be successful and to be able to adapt quickly, but the market is ever-changing, so if you're not adapting fast enough, you will be out of the game soon.

That's why I stopped learning from the million (old) courses I had downloaded, it was just procrastinating. However I like communities, a group of people in the same mission than you with different levels of knowledge and experience...Huge value in a good community!

I would recommend that you get a copy of a best selling book on marketing. You will be able to learn the lessons at your own pace.

I had learned about marketing theoretically via courses regarding marketing and through youtube. Also, form the practical training or internships provided by the companies.
