How exacly does eCommerce work?

Hi,

I am looking to build an eCommerce website. I am constantly seeing YouTube and Facebook Ads about eCommerce & Drop Shipping.

Once the site is built and an order comes in, do I then purchase the item with the money the customer has paid and get it shipped to them directly?

Or are there automated drop shipping websites where I can get API Keys etc?
That way once the order is placed it is sent directly to the distributor via the API and shipped directly from them?

Thank you.

Drop shipping is as easy and complicated as it can be. One way to make money without the hassle. there are so many apps online to do the job these days. Let me know what you find

Generally speaking, an order comes in to your store and the customer pays your retail price. You then contact your supplier via email or their own online site and order from them, giving them your customer's address to ship it to and paying a wholesale price. The difference in the retail price and the wholesale price is your profit.

Dropshipping is a great way to get into eCommerce because you do not have to fork out a ton of money upfront for inventory nor do you have to waste space on inventory or time on packing and shipping.

I have seen no evidence that anything "automated" in dropshipping leads to any major success. When you make things too easy, competition and price cutting becomes so fierce that nobody is making a profit.

We cover a couple of different eCommerce models in our course as well as many other things including which products tend to work well and which do not as well as marketing your store, SEO and more.

I wouldn't waite until the sale comes in to go and buy products .Mostly every thing can be done digitally .

What you need is an inventory software tracking system .You might also want to reach out to suppliers .

You can upload images of the items you want to sell then when a sale comes in you can ship the items directly from your manufacturer to the customer .

In closing I will say that drop shipping isn't complexed but it isn't as simple as setting up.a website and selling items .

I agree about not waiting until the sale comes in before buying the product. I'm not an expert by any means but wouldnt that add to shipping time, especially if you're getting a lot of orders?

But, then, you'd need the space to store the products you buy and you might buy more products than you can actually sell, so you take a loss.

I think waiting till you have a sale to fulfill before you buy saves a lot of headaches.

Especially if you are dropshipping, which really takes no more time than if you were shipping the products, yourself.

One final note in response to your implied desire for the order to go directly to your supplier, I'm guessing in order to save you the whole 5 minutes of sending it manually ...

Some eCommerce shopping cart software can be set up to automatically forward orders directly to your supplier(s) but I DO NOT recommend doing that. You will want to review orders because customers make obvious mistakes (picking an accessory that does not match the main product, for instance) and because of the very real possibility of online fraud. If you are not screening orders for mistakes or fraud, you could wind up with unhappy customers or out a lot of money due to fraud.

Hi, speaking about eCommerce, I mostly find it simpler to ask a specialist. As it is an important topic, I want it to be as perfect as possible. I once had a similar situation to yours, and I remember how much I struggled to find the best solution. Only after that to understand some people specialise in solving these problems. I was so happy to see my problem solved by one of the (Link removed by Moderator) They usually specialise in digital transformations, design and development, performance improvements, ongoing maintenance, and support, so you can contact them if you want.
