My hosting company says my Websites are down

My hosting company says my Websites are down..

A few weeks ago I got an email from my hosting company explaining that my site was down because they had a serious incident with their CDN. I dont get a lot of traffic to my websites but maybe I lost potential clients as Im showing demo websites to potential clients..

Do you think I could get some money back from what Im paying to the hosting because of this issue?

    No.

If you read the terms of service, downtimes are covered in those terms. In the technical world, stuff happens.

They let you know about the issue so you could move your sites to different hosting and get it back up quickly. The sites were not important enough perhaps - you didn't do that.

maybe I lost potential clients as Im showing demo websites to potential clients..
You should learn from this - this is YOUR site and it's up to you to maintain it. Sending 'clients' to a site as a demo without checking that site frequently to make certain it is displaying properly....is not a good business practice.

If that host is not reliable (uptime) maybe you should move to a different hosting service. If this is a rare occurrence, that's not necessary.

There is nothing worse than the anguish of worrying
    whether your websites will disappear.

I've been there, so I feel your pain.

But who cares about the hosting money!?

If you're not making enough money to cover this type
of expense, then you need to work on that.

    Do what Kay King says.

If this is a reputable hosting company, and this was a
    temporary glitch, carry on.

If it's some fly-by-night operation, move your websites
to a reliable hosting company ASAP.

And ALWAYS make sure that you backup your content.

Can I ask why you had to hear about this from an email? I mean, I actively monitor the sites that are important to me. I am normally the one asking my host why a site is down vs. waiting for them to tell me.

If you are doing this to make money, then maybe consider how active you are working on the sites and improving them.

I'm not saying that you've done anything wrong because I don't know your business model or plan. Your setup may be different than mine.

Good luck in figuring all this out.

Change your hosting provider for a better one ... Have a look at such providers as hostingsource.com, hostround.com and siteground.com.
    Good and reliable they are.

Deals from qhoster.com and allwebhost.com are reliable enough to sign up with.

    Worth trying.
