Multilanguage and multicountry SEO site

Hello everyone. My name is Luis and I am getting started in SEO.
I am very complicated with a gig.
I must do keyword research, selection, copy and then optimization for a business that wants to sell throughout Union Europe.
For budget reasons and managment desitions , they will start only with the site in English (it is still under construction) and will use a translation plugin (weglot) for the languages that they consider important (French, German, Italian and Spanish).
Everything is still in design and I can suggest changes to the architecture of the site. However, the owners demand that the site be launched in English to begin.
How would you do keyword research and copy optimization considering the language problem?

    You won't like my answer - and I don't blame you.

    If the person paying for the site insists the site must be in English - they need to hire someone fluent in English. Whether it's an editor or a content writer or a copywriter they need to hire the right people for the job.

    Using tools that translate to English from other languages almost always results in stilted use of English and copy that is clearly written by non-English writers.

    I can't imagine doing keyword research or SEO in German, for example - I don't speak the language and could not work in it effectively.

      Thanks for your response, it doesn't bother me at all.

      Maybe I expressed myself wrong, the problem is not English but positioning in markets that do not speak English.
      We have someone who is a native English speaker on the team. The issue is that the client want to consider many countries as a single market (EU, which actually is one sinlge market), but using only one language to start (English). The order is clear and not very flexible in that sense.
      The architecture does not have a geographic criterion and will have a language criterion, with subfolders (www.xxx.eu/fr, www.xxx.eu/es, www.xxx.eu/de...) to share authority and backlinks etc
      But everything most to be in English
      What would be the least bad strategy in your opinion?

    Sorry I misunderstood the issue. I honestly do not know the answer.


    Some here who work internationally may have good advice for you. Will the plugin allow the site user to choose which language he will view? The order may be 'clear and not very flexible' - it may also be unworkable. Or I may be seeing problems where none exist.
