What are the key updates in Facebook Ads for 2025?

I did expect some updates with AI and targeting, but I didn't imagine the scope and impact. For instance, I noticed that detailed targeting exclusions were removed as of March/June 2025. I have been working on ad sets that relied heavily on exclusion logic, so this one change threw off a lot of my segmentation.

Also, I did see mention that Meta is expanding Special Ad Categories (like financial services) in 2025, which may force stricter rules for some verticals I advertise in.

On the creative side, I have been working with generative AI in my ad copies. I read about "AdLlama," a reinforcement-learning based text generator for ad copy, which reportedly improved CTR by around 6-7%.

But I didn't yet test it deeply in my campaigns, so I'm curious how reliable it is in real-world scaling.

I also caught wind that Meta is pushing harder on fully automated ads (AI managing creative + targeting) by 2026. That makes me wonder: are we already being nudged toward handing over more control to Meta's systems?

Another thing: I did hear about new ad formats announced at IAB NewFronts; for example, Partnership Ads (an ad with a brand partner in the header) and integrations with Facebook Live.

Plus, Meta is rolling out new settings like "format display options," "ad sequencing," and removing placements like "Facebook video feeds."

So my ask to the forum specialists:
What are the key changes in Facebook Ads for 2025 that I absolutely must adapt to, in targeting, formats, AI tools, and ad policy, and how are you adjusting your strategies?

Meta is really more towards automation.I think the key now is to focus on creative, since Meta clearly wants us to rely more on its AI systems.

Really insightful post. I've been seeing the same trend toward automation and tighter ad policies too. It feels like Meta is slowly moving advertisers toward full AI-driven control. Adjusting segmentation and creative strategies early might be the smartest move this year.

The biggest shift this year is Meta leaning harder into Advantage+ automation. Targeting granularity is shrinking, so most of the control now sits in audience signals and creative testing. For clients, we've started merging interest stacks and letting AI handle micro-optimization. The removal of detailed exclusions just confirms that manual segmentation is being phased out.

This post seems interesting... I'm looking forward to reading the English language version.

Yeah, I expected AI updates, but not this much. Removing targeting exclusions really changed how I build campaigns. I've been testing AI ad copy like AdLlama, but not sure how stable it is yet. Meta's clearly pushing toward full automation, so we'll all need to adapt fast.

Key Facebook (Meta) Ads Updates for 2025

    1. AI & Automation Integration

    2. Meta favours combining audience types (cold, warm, hot) into single campaigns/ad sets, letting the AI manage budget and targeting.

    3. Reels and Stories remain the primary focus; ads must be vertical, mobile-first, and highly engaging in the first 2 seconds.
    4. Target audience based on Household income to more countries. (Previously only supported USA)
