How to dominate Google in YOUR local market Like I did for Maryland Internet Advertising
Blogspot for Business- simple mistakes people make

If you're going to use a Blogspot blog for business purposes here are common mistakes I often see when people ask me for a free SEO consultation.
You can use a blogspot blog for a stand alone business website but most of the time the reason for having a blogspot blog is to support an existing company website.
If the local competition does not know enough to capitalize on a blog, the net effect is that the existing company website will rank in Google and the Blog will rank as well. If done right you can fill up 3, 4 or more of the top ten spots for a given search term.
If you are taking up 4 slots and some generic directory is taking up 2 more that doesn't exactly leave your competition with much wiggle room!
A blog will get indexed much, much quicker than a conventional website because Google knows that blogs get updated frequently.
and there's the rub: Too often small businesses think of a company website as a "Fire and Forget" weapon. This is unfortunate. What's different about a blog is that you are EXPECTED to post FREQUENTLY or a blog isn't going to do your company much good.
The number one MOST common mistake is to "not inform Google" that you're a webmaster.
To get a blogger (blogspot) blog you have to have a Gmail account. The Webmaster Tools are something you're not going to see in a standard Google Account Page.
Why would Google obfuscate this?
Most bloggers are not webmasters, the whole point of blogging is that you don't NEED to be a webmaster to blog.
If you want something from Google, patronize Google's services:
www.google.com/webmasters/tools/
www.google.com/analytics/
Sign up for both of these. Once you've done this you've "hung out your shingle" and officially notified Google that you are a serious webmaster.

- Post at least twice a month (weekly is better)
- When you run out of things to say post a picture with a caption
- Use as many Google tools as are offered
