Here's some of my thoughts from the book "The Power of Full Engagement" by Tony Schwartz. I am writing the action steps here and eliminating theories and case studies.

  • Work for 60 minutes and take rest for 20 minutes - work in rhythms. You will perform more.
  • Take a 20-40 minute nap in the afternoon for better focus @ work during the evening time.
  • Have 7-8 hours of sleep per night for peak performance until your last days.
  • Strength training is as important as cardio vascular training.
  • Spend and renew energy - this is the rhythm of life. Spend and renew physical energy, emotional energy, intellectual energy and spiritual energy. All 4 are important for a complete life.
  • Have a separate place for work and when you finish it and come to your home, you can forget completely about your work and when you go there again you can engage fully. Do not be in the grey zone. (It is very important for IMers to have a separate home office if they are working from home). Or atleast a separate room which they treat as office.
  • It takes 30 days to incorporate a new habit. First 10 days is easy because you have mental motivation. Second 10 days are the toughest. Last 10 days can be a little easy. After 30 days it becomes a habit. Do not try to incorporate more than 1 habit in a month... the body can't take it. (The first habit I installed was going to yoga class every morning. Then I incorporated the habit of going to the gym every evening!)
  • Try to achieve peak physical health is the most satisfying thing you can do.
  • Drink half litre of water every morning immediately after you wake up. Your body will be dehydrated when you sleep.
  • Have a lot of calories in the morning, medium in the noon and less in the night. Not the other way around.
That's all I can think of now... I will make another post about this soon!

What do you think about the above points?
