Do A Barrel Roll

I realize that the “do a barrel roll” novelty is probably wearing off by now, but on the chance not everybody has heard about it, here it is again. And besides, it might give you some inspiration to pep up your Internet Marketing business!

I’ve written about it in my own blog – Why Do a Barrel Roll? – where I explain how it came to be and include a direct quote from Google about it, plus a link to an ABC News video featuring the novelty.

Here, in my Warrior blog, I will highlight why I think the “barrel roll” query is worth thinking about beyond the novelty of it.

The barrel roll novelty demonstrates the viral potential of the Internet. It didn’t take long after the novelty was introduced that social networks everywhere were chatting it up and sending multitudes of people to the Google search engine to type in the words ‘do a barrel roll’ to see what happens.

Even though I knew it was just a gimmick designed to create viral traffic, I was still impressed and entertained by the result. And as a result of my experience, I’ve been telling others about it!

How does this relate to your Internet Marketing business? Well, if you can devote enough creative thought to it, you might be able to come up with some kind of novelty gimmick that will go viral on the Net and drive loads of traffic to your website.

You may not be able to use a visual gimmick like the Google barrel roll, but you might be able to figure out some unique way to get the attention of your targeted audience. You might create a wacky YouTube video, or an inspiring info-graphic, or some captivating content that makes your readers sit up and say, “Wow!

The important thing is to tie it in to your niche or marketing theme. After all, your aim is to get targeted traffic, so doing something crazy on YouTube and attracting a ton of traffic won’t do you any good if they aren’t really interested in what you are selling.

The idea is to do something that stands out from the ordinary, something that is obviously unique and different, even if your product or service is not something new. All it takes is a unique twist on an old theme to get attention.

If it is unique and entertaining enough to go viral, it just might also get picked up by the news channels! So it’s worth the effort to do some brainstorming and to take a risk with something off the wall. As long as it is in good taste, is not offensive, and is respectable to a general audience.

So, your first step is to go to Google and do a barrel roll. Then sit down and do some brainstorming for your own Internet Marketing business. Do your job well and you just might become the next viral sensation on the World Wide Web!
