Thinking About Website Conversion Rate

Yes, I have been thinking about website conversion rate lately. What I mean is, converting website visitors into paying customers or subscribers. You see, that is what true Internet Marketing success is all about: conversion.

As marketers, we spend a lot of time, effort and expense on getting traffic to our websites. But that is only the first step. Once we get the traffic, we need to motivate or encourage them to take action of some sort, whether to buy something or sign up for our newsletter, our list, an optimized freebie, or some such thing.

If they don’t take the desired action after they land on our site, what was the point of getting them there in the first place?

In order to be successful, you need to plan your strategy every step of the way. The sad truth is that most marketers have no plan, other than getting visitors to their site and then hoping some of those visitors might happen to see something interesting and buy it. Not a good strategy.

As a marketer, you must take responsibility for the success of your website conversion rate.

Taking a page from search engine optimization best practices, one way to enhance your rate of conversions is to design each web page for one, and only one, purpose. Every element on that page should be focused on guiding the visitor to take the action you want them to when visiting that page.

For example, if you are selling a product, then create a dedicated web page for the product: include product info, related articles, testimonies and anything you can think of that focuses the visitor’s attention on that product.

Do not include other products, ads, unrelated articles or anything at all that takes the visitor’s attention away from the product the page is designed to sell.

Most importantly, DO include a call to action. In fact, several calls to action expressed in different ways are best. Great salespeople follow the ABC rule: Always Be Closing.

If you focus every element on a page towards promoting and selling that one product, not only will your sales conversions improve considerably, but that page will do very well in the search engine results.

Most squeeze pages or lead capture pages are good at converting visitors in this way. Their sole purpose is to get the visitor to sign up, opt in or register for something. If you apply this kind of focus to your web pages, you will begin to see some impressive results.

If you haven’t given much thought to website conversion rate, there is no better time to begin than now. Internet Marketing success takes serious planning, and the more effort and attention you give to the process, the greater and the faster your rewards will be.
