Niche Marketing Overview

Niche Marketing is simply one aspect of Internet Marketing where you focus on a particular line of products or services, or on a particular group of prospects to market to.

When you are first starting out, it is good to identify a Niche Market to focus on to help establish your online identity. It is tempting to try to be everything to everybody, but if you narrow your focus, you stand to make greater progress, faster.

Typically, a Niche Market is one where there is less competition among marketers. In other words, fewer marketers are competing to sell the same products or services to the same targeted group of consumers.

Not all Niche Markets are productive or profitable. A smart Internet marketer will do a bit of market analysis to determine whether or not there is sufficient targeted web traffic within a certain Niche Market to make it worthwhile.

Of course, you will not truly know how productive a particular market is until you have your Niche Marketing website and other marketing tools in place. But, you can reduce the risk of disappointment by researching potential niche markets using resources like Google Trends and Yahoo Buzz.

Once you have identified a promising niche market, you will want to find a selection of products and services related to that niche that you can offer to your targeted prospects. Many Internet Marketers take advantage of affiliate programs that offer residual commissions on sales, or high commission percentages, perhaps in the range of 50% or more.

To find such products and services, or to find websites of other marketers targeting your chosen niche, you can do Internet keyword searches, then closely examine the top sites that show up in the search engine results. In some cases, you can become an affiliate for the same companies that the top sites use as their sources.

When you have your products chosen and your niche site set up and ready to go, there are several ways to advertise, promote and market your products and services:

- Internet Advertising

- Blogging

- Article Marketing

- List Building

- Pay Per Click

- Online Marketing Forums and Social Networking Sites

- Directory Listings

- Backlink and Joint Venture Strategies

These are some of the most common methods. You will learn other methods from marketers you come to know through various groups, associations, forums and social sites.

As you build your subscriber base and the popularity of your Niche Marketing website, and as your sales increase, you will be able to fine tune your product or service line, dropping slow items, adding new items. You will also be able to improve your marketing methods, spending more time and money on the methods that produce the best results.

Eventually, you will have your marketing for this particular Niche Market running smoothly and you can then work on identifying and developing additional Niche Marketing opportunities.

Depending on how experienced you are, you may find it beneficial to join a membership site that focuses on teaching members all the ins and outs of Affiliate Marketing and Niche Marketing.
