Does Twitter bring you traffic?

Short post today. Simple question: Does Twitter bring you traffic?
Please feel welcome to post comments here. I'm interested in knowing how effective Twitter is for drawing traffic to your sites and marketing offers.
Personally, I notice a definite difference in traffic on days that I don't spend any time on Twitter.
If you look in my forum signature, you will see that I have three Twitter accounts: my personal account gtbulmer; my primary website account StarrBizzcom; and my niche site account ThinkGreen4Life. (Please feel welcome to follow me on each of these.)
When I spend time on Twitter, I most often post tweets relating to blog posts and product sales pages, but I also try to post informative items, like news and retweets of other members, and inspirational items, like quotes. Whichever account I have open at the time, I will first check out new followers to decide whether or not I will follow them in return, then I will leave the account open for several hours, while I'm working on other things, and pop back into Twitter every 10–30 minutes to post another tweet.
As I said, on days when I do not do this, I notice the difference in my visit stats.
How about you? What is your experience with Twitter? Does your activity at Twitter make any difference to your visit statistics for your websites, blogs and sales pages?
