WordPress is all the rage. But have you tried to create a massive site fast using WordPress? It just isn't going to happen.

If you want to create a big site fast, and I mean hundreds or even thousands of pages, to create scale you need to learn html and php. Especially php.

For example, this site was created today: http://touchuppaintpen.net. It took several days of careful planning, but once the template was in place and approved it took longer to upload the 7000 web pages than it did to actually create the pages.

There is actually no text on each page. Everything is php driven, and with php the site will be able to have a growing amount of unique and randomized content on each page.

For many websites WordPress is simply not necessary. I am not saying WordPress is never appropriate. Hardly. I have dozens of WordPress blogs myself.

But you may be making a mistake if you do not take the time to learn html and php, and thus limit yourself to a certain type of website.

I was looking at NEW posts when I ran across one of yours. Curious, I clicked on your blog...and then I see this post.

Guess what? I still like Frontpage 2003 best of all. It's super quick and Google loves it. Lots of other reasons too.

Naturally, if you want a yakking blog or a tiffany site, FP is out of the question. But if you want a workhorse, it's the best way to go. It has 4 times the graphics capabilities of WP. You can do donuts around poor WP for most things. Of course, some things like RSS are harder to do...but in most cases there are ways.

Yes, I realize this is turribly controversial. I've only been using it since 1998. Shame it went belly up in 2003. Jeez!

I agree with your piece completely. There is life outside of WordPress.
