Website Service Contract Terms
Posted 9th May 2012 at 11:16 AM by kindsvater
If you provide a service for a website, such as creating the site, performing SEO, writing content, or another task, you may be asked to sign a contract.
Often these contracts are general with nothing to be concerned about. But sometimes there is, such as a noncompete term.
For this industry, in most situations signing an agreement with a noncompete is not recommended. You would have to be paid a lot of money to suddenly not being able to create a site in a niche, or perform SEO for someone else, etc., because of a non compete.
In most states reasonable non-compete terms are enforceable. In other places like California you do not have to worry because noncompetes are void.
If you have a question about the legality of a contract you are asked to sign have it reviewed. That way you do not accidentally agree to something harmful to your business.
