There are two parts to the question of what a thin affiliate site is. The answer is important because Google will nuke your site if it categorizes it in the "thin affiliate" category.

Affiliate Sites

First, is it an affiliate site?

This is usually obviously because the website has affiliate links on it.

That, by itself, can be enough to torpedo your SEO rankings.

The solution is to not have affiliate links. Stated a better way, the solution is to not let Google know you have affiliate links.

Redirects are not a solution since Google simply follows the redirect to its destination and sees you are an affiliate.

The only solution is to use a product like Squeeze Links or Elf Links to prevent Google from seeing your links. Then, you can link to wherever you want without worrying about your rankings.

Thin Sites

Second, is it a "thin" site?

The two considerations are quality of content and quantity of content.

If your page is coming in at 50 words it is too short. If those 50 words are copied from a manufacturer's product description and appear on a thousand other websites, you're toothpick thin.

Get your word count up. This is not just a 400 word minimum for an article directory. Get it to double or triple that. Yes, a thousand words.

Google loves pages with lots of words. It must think only a journalist would write something that long. This is one reason why professional online writers have super long articles, with graphics, sub headlines, and background information.

It keeps people reading so there is no quick bounce rate, and all the content is great for search rankings.

The other aspect is quality. You should not be using duplicate content copied from somewhere else.

If you are struggling with an easy way to create content I have a product sold for another purpose that may help.

Fairly inexpensive, Lost Niche Profits includes a section showing you how to get free content written by others, and then how to quickly rework it into your new content.

This method works best for real products.

However you decide to create new content, make sure it is quality, has lots of words, and is not copied from another site.
