The key function of your headline is to capture enough attention in the reader to get them to stop and read the next sentence.

If your headline does not do this you are going to bomb.

The five elements below are the things you can use to grab that attention and get you reader to go down that page.

Although they are all important I would say creating curiosity is probably the most important.

That and stating your USP in you headline.

Curiosity is powerful driving force to get people to buy.

The other key thing to remember is to make sure that you sales copy is speaking directly to your market.

Make sure to get to the heart of what they are feeling and reflect that in your headline.

Maybe they are feeling frustrated or angry or maybe they are feeling let down in some way.

Make sure to zoom in on what their biggest pain is and what they really want or fanaticise about and you are on the right track.

Ok then –let’s take a look at those 5 elements

1) Promises, Promises – the biggest benefit
There is a lot written about headlines both online and offline and many different theories about how to write good ones but remembering the “promise rule” is an excellent start to a good sales letter.

You can try putting the strongest benefit, or promise of what you are trying to sell into the headline.

This can draw you prospect into the copy.

The rest of the copy will then weave around this.

Remember that you are always selling in your letter. People have a problem or issue to solve and it’s your job to help them.

Telling them this benefit from “get go” in the headline can work wonders.

2) Useful sells
This is the next thing to try when you are writing or looking at a headline. Make sure that it’s useful or that what you are promising is going to be useful to the reader.

2) Urgent
Urgency is something that we want to weave into our copy numerous times on the page and the reason for this is simple.

There are many distractions online and offline and if your prospect leaves the page there is not much chance they will come back again. So try to introduce some incentive for the person reading the headline now.

3) Get specific
Being specific in your headline will really help your sales. Rather than being vague, if you are specific in your headlines it just seems more believable.

By promising something in say, 30 days or promising an exact amount of money, you can really help boast the chances that someone will believe your proposal.

4) Curiosity
One the key functions of the headline can be to build enough curiosity to get the person to read the rest of the copy. So make sure to check in with your headline to see if there is enough curiosity in it to get the readers to take the next step.

5) Being different
When you are checking your headline it’s a good idea to make sure it’s a little different to other headlines out there. This will make you stand out which means more sales for you.

6) Appealing directly to the emotion of the market
Getting right down to addressing what your market is really feeling is another way to work a headline. If you know what they are feeling you can tap right into that in the headline without promising anything in particular.

Bearing in mind the 5 elements above here are some ideas that you can use for your headlines...
