Did you know that WordPress gives you two options when creating your blog? Most people do not. They assume that WordPress is WordPress. You need to know that one is WordPress.com and the other is WordPress.org and they are different.
So what are the differences in the two platforms and which is best for you?
Differences
1. WordPress.com is a very easy to use, all set up and hosted for you, blog. It gives you a few options for changing the theme and such, but is very limited in what can really be personalized. WordPress.com is extremely easy to use, and you can be up and running in five minutes or less. However, in the end, WordPress.com really owns your blog which is why you are so limited in what you can do on it.
2. WordPress.org is also easy to use but a bit more complicated. Since you do have control over it and can personalize it as you wish, you will need to take the time to learn how to move around the Dashboard. But the good thing is that you can download a multitude of free or paid themes, plugins, templates, and so on. Learning to do all of this is not difficult, it just will take some time and patience.
Besides the ability to personalize your WordPress.org, this platform allows you to have your own domain name. Then you will host it on your own webserver host. Both of these two things require minimum costs. However, doing this allows you total control over your blog. You own it - not WordPress.
Which is best for you?
1. If you are simply wanting to blog about your life, your ideas, your experiences and are not really interested in creating a business with this platform, then definitely WordPress.com is for you. You can get your blog on the web in no time at all and begin sharing posts and photos with all of your family and friends.
2. If you intend to use this platform to create traffic, build a list, and create an income stream, then you will certainly want to sign up for WordPress.org. Here you will have all the flexibility you need to customize your site. You will be able to add the graphics you want, create an opt-in box to collect e-mails, add code for advertising, and a multitude of other things.
No matter what your purpose for blogging - decide NOW to get started!
