Anybody who remembers buying stuff during their childhood will know that charm pricing works.

As kids, before we knew a thing or two about math, we always said a product priced at $1.99 cost "one dollar." We just forget the other two digits...

Studies done by Walmart and other big chains have shown that ".99 pricing" also has perception of being "a deal" or "on sale" by consumers. On the other hand, prices ending with zeros are perceived as premium or high-quality, especially if they are services.
