Why I LOVE Neil Patel's Blogs

As most of you probably know, Neil Patel is an internet marketer who is very active on LinkedIn and has worked with some MASSIVE startups like Gawker, etc.

For some reason I've always found Neil's stuff--on copywriting and other topics--to be a little bit above the class average.

I've been thinking about why Neil comes across more 'legit' than the average marketer and I think I've figured it out:

He focuses on DETAILS.

Everything he says, he backs up with numbers, charts, and images.

It's almost the 180 degree opposite of the average copywriter site, which 99% of the time is complete fluff.

Take this article for example.

When you read it, you can tell that the writer did his homework.

It builds trust because it gives the impression of a real professional rather than some shady hustler.

There is a takeaway here for copywriters:

Details build credibility.

So much copy out there has the 'fireworks' (copy tactics) but is clearly under-researched in terms of factual understanding. While not everyone in your market is going to be looking for loads of facts, stats and numbers, there's always a segment of every market that does.

Actionable goal based on this:

Increase research time on every job you take on. It's probably not an accident that the importance of research is the first point Ogilvy focuses on in Ogilvy on Advertising... Simultaneously the most important AND the most neglected part of copywriting.

Master of marketing. I especially like his own pics in this blog. They are funny and interesting and yet moderate, without any hint of indecency.

His articles are well researched for sure but I don't think he writes them
He hires writers to do these and they aim for quality that you would
normally sell in order to build traffic to his blogs. So he has definitely
    moved up the "free line".

I'm a big fan of Neil too. I've learned a lot from his blog posts and articles over the years. The free content he publishes is better than many paid-for internet marketing courses. I agree that the level of detail in each of his articles is something we should all be aiming for.

If you post looking for writers in the IM/marketing space on this job board:

Jobs for Bloggers - ProBlogger Job Board

Inevitably you will get applications from people who also write for Neil and his blogs.

You can't verify every single claim, but when that many people claim to have written (and then link to content that matches their style pretty closely) it's hard to deny their claims.

I have hired some of them for my own projects, and they typically charge around $147/1,000 word post. They include the graphics and research etc. and their quality is on par with Neil.

I would say Neil's expertise is his ability to control quality, but even his personal blog is most likely written by ghosts.

Not to knock him. It's genius what he's done.

It's just to say you could do it too for $147/post.

It's like Dan Kennedy said about the NY Times Bestsellers in business (a lot of whom have their books ghostwritten):

It doesn' prove anything except that they can write a check.
