Rick Duris: The one that got away :(

Hi All,

It's unfortunate.

I need to crawl back into my (copywriting) cave.

My Partners and Clients are realizing that my contribution here when taken the wrong way and people unnecessarily and inaccurately respond/retaliate, "throws me off my game."

Insults and misinformation, intentional or unintentional, hurt and even scar me deeply (inside).

I am ultra-ultra-sensitive. It's the ONLY way I know to do my best work.

Insults and misinformation, especially when referencing people I know well, "sends me off." It's not that I can't take criticism, it's that I can't take the idiotic or anonymous or self-serving promotional grandstanding backhanded insults.

I've told more than a few of you this privately, as well as publicly.

Please, I'm not being arrogant or rude or discourteous. I am being honest.

YOU ALL HAVE YOUR OWN BRILLANCE!

I see it in you all--CLEARLY. So clearly.

But I myself, I'm going back underground, into the depths of the copywriting and Internet marketing world. Back into my "cave."

Think Arne Saknussemm in the ORIGINAL version of Jules Verne's "Journey to the Center of the Earth."

I wish I could continue to contribute to you on this forum at present but unfortunately, at this time, more pressing matters demand on behalf of my Partners and Clients. They see I am clearly shaken by what's occurring on this forum and they want, they request, my contribution here curtailed immediately.

I must comply for the sake of our collaborative success.

Again, as a sincere "farewell"--please, play nice. Doing so, serves all. It contributes to all who want to learn and grow and profit online and with great marketing and copy.

I may be back someday. But not now.

I wish each and every one of you ONLY BUT THE BEST in your business, copywriting and marketing efforts.

Sincerely (with my heart exposed so much so you can touch it with your finger),

- Rick Duris

PS: And if you, as a sincere person really have a pressing need or want my opinion, you can reach me on Skype. My Skype ID is "copyranger". I will help you. NO CHARGE.

Again, best of success, best of everything.

I totally understand and can relate.

I usually don't even read the threads that look like people are
fighting in. You can tell because they have a lot of posts
    and sometimes inflammatory titles.

I'm a little dry and restrained in my opinions on these forums -
not because I'm afraid of offending anyone, but because I've
noticed if I get upset over something as trivial as a forum thing
it's not good for me at home... and just not worth it.

Interesting. If a client told me he didn't like my posts or participation in forums, I'd tell him to find a new copywriter. I'll not be censored.

I don't think he's being censored, so much as he's censoring himself, Bruce. I read it as he's simply realised that (for him) contributing to this forum, and the subsequent feedback, isn't conducive to his A-Game.

Your input will be missed, Rick.

        Jess,

I swear I wasn't taking a shot at him. But he did say his partners and clients brought it to his attention. I wish him well. I'm just saying, to steal a line from Popeye, "I am what I am". If you don't like that, we're not going to be good partners.

I agree with that statement BUT... I'm sure their are other factors at play.

I've personally cut WAAAAY back on my posting in forums, just because there's more productive things I could be working on.

I still pop in on a regular basis to see what people are talking about and make the occasional post.

    @Rick

I am ultra-ultra-sensitive. It's the ONLY way I do my best work.

I'm not preaching to you, in my opinion you've been a much needed breath of fresh air on this forum.

Just remember, this is the internet, the bar of entry is zero.

I've been criticized by a well known copywriter for spending $100 on a copywriting book from a copywriter I have tremendous respect for.

The gist of it was "You're an idiot for buying a $100 book from this guy when you could get a better education at Amazon for the same money"...

The guy hasn't seen my Amazon receipts, and that $100 book was one of the best investments I'd ever made because it goes in depth into areas that no other book does.

Similar criticisms... "If you're so good at writing copy why don't you write for yourself?" (I do).

"I think copywriters fake success and earnings to sell their copywriting courses (As of right now I have zero copywriting courses).

    Things like that.

And this is coming from complete strangers. Screw 'em. They're not your clients, you have no idea who they are, so letting it effect you on an emotional level doesn't make a lot of sense.

I do take constructive criticism to heart. But if someones deliberately trying to say something hurtful, I may defend myself but beyond that I don't give it a second thought.

That being said, we haven't talked much but I see and appreciate the value you provide here.

I'm sure you have your own reasons (and I respect them), but hopefully we'll be seeing you around again in the future.

    Best of luck,

    -Scott

Rick, WTF? It's just a Forum. Yeah there's aholes and nasties and complete dopes masquerading as copywriters. But there's also some terrific people here too. But I know what you're saying. Maybe you should go smell the roses. Or do what I do and light one up. Life's way too short to let things like a copywriting forum get to you.

Rick- Very sad to see you go. It's the tone of the disagreements rather than the actual debates (which are healthy) that turn people off.

You're one of the best posters-hope you come back some day...

          Rick,

I find this to be quite disheartening as I love reading your posts, they are superb!

On the other hand, I totally understand why you must do what you are doing. I wish you well and honestly hope someday you'll return as you were definately a positive among some negative around here!

          You will be sorely missed!

      Dear Rick ~

I'm just getting started here, and I'm sorry I missed getting to know you at all. You sound like someone I would have liked being friends with ~ any friend of Arne Sacnussum . . . .
