broker or referral fees?

Hi
A large company is looking for copywriter and I happen to know a perfect fit for the contract/job. Would you ask for fees if he lands this job? under what terms?
Thanks for feedback

    Hi Nutrifitness,

    Here's what I would do.

You say to the copywriter this and it will be appreciated.

"I have what I think will be a great Client for you.

YOU would be the only copywriter I would be recommending. Because I think you have the goods.

Let me ask you a question: Assuming you land the company as a Client, would a referral fee be inappropriate?

Nothing extravagant. But just enough to show appreciation.

    What do you think?"

Then just shut up and let the person talk.

They'll probably ask you a dozen questions. But the bottom line is you don't know.

All you're looking for is a commitment that if they land the company as a Client, you'll be compensated. And here's the clincher:

Let them decide what the amount and payment structure will be. Don't you dictate terms. Let them decide.

That way, it's easy for them and they acknowledge the value of the Client. And you are in a far better position to be paid.

90% of all referral deals do not work out. There's like a buyer's remorse that kicks in. Because you aren't doing any "work."

It's because people get protective of the income. But if you're collaborative and looking for a win/win all around, nothing is inappropriate. And all will benefit. And the Client will thank you and the copywriter will be grateful.

Thank you! that is exactly what I was seeking...and all of above is true...it is a large health /wellness company and I think he would be a great fit....although I know of others who would also...but they are looking for long term contract and he can use that right now..
