Established Web Site Needs (Exp.) Copywriter To take it to the next level..

I have an established website and product. It is a one-of-a-kind (really!) in a large and growing niche. (Alternative energy) The website has been around since 2006, the product since 2008. It is getting 250-300 unique visitors a day. It has less than a 1% refund rate, tons of testimonials, I know my demographic, you name it.

Here's the problem: I can't seem to get the conversion rate higher than 1%-1.5% and the truth of the matter is, I'm tired of fighting it. I want to spend my time on product creation, not endless rewrites and split-tests to get a .0005 difference.

I'm looking for someone who can...

1.) Raise the conversion rate above 3% (at least)
2.) Be a part of my outsourcing team and be the "go to" guy when I need copywriting done.
3.) Basically take over the marketing aspects of my web business. I'll get the eyeballs on the page, you get the sales. Whether you do this for a flat fee or a percentage of sales can be discussed.

But the number one attribute you need to bring to the table is results in the form of tangible sales.

You can have complete creative control over the sales letter. By this, I mean, long form sales letter, short form, video, whatever. I can redesign the website around the message if needed.

I'm very serious about this. Currently I have ads up at Elance and Odesk looking for the same.

You can contact me at dsieg58 at yahoo (dot) com if you're interested.

David, you say you have ads at elance and odesk for this job - do you have an odesk budget or are you looking for a serious copywriter who can actually improve sales?

Just want clarification as I have found I simply cannot get jobs on these sites - I can't quote that low. I'm sure the guys here will agree that if you want a 3% conversion rate, you'll have to pay for an appropriately skilled copywriter.

Otherwise I'm happy to email you later with some info

yes, I do have Ads at those sites. I haven't accepted any yet, and I've never been happy with what was delivered at either of those 2 sites when I've used them in the past.

You wrote..."you'll have to pay for an appropriately skilled copywriter."

I have no problem with that. I don't mind paying professional fees for professional results. I have a problem with paying professional fees for sales copy I could have gotten off this website. Can you tell me you think a fair price is for "an appropriately skilled copywriter?"

By all means...email away. LOL. Hope to hear from you soon.

Interesting question that, "what's a fair price". Certainly I agree, outsourcing websites are not the best resource for sales copy you're relying on to convert as you and I have both discovered hehe.

All good sales copy is an investment, not a cost. If John Carlton can't make you back his fee and then some, he wouldn't take on the job in the first place and most warriors wouldn't either. If you pay $5000 for a sales letter, and the copywriter can't make that back for you in sales, (provided you're getting targeted and qualified eyes to that sales letter), you're entitled to be pissed.

Frankly a 3% conversion rate needs both the targeted visitors and top shelf copy. (Assuming you have a great product). If you're paying under 5k you should be concerned, and you might want to look for someone offering a money back guarantee, in case they can't pull one out of the hat.

Trouble is, so many clients get zero results because they won't get those targeted eyes to their site. They won't mail the letters. They won't run the ad.

This is where your Copywriting Strategy comes in. You sound like you're an implementer and willing to invest in good copy, so the key for you is probably to make sure your traffic is targeted and qualified, do your part and 3% plus is achievable. Look to pay 4 to 5k minimum for serious quality copywriters.

I have the targeted eyeballs, mostly from serious affiliates as well as organic search results. 3K-5K is do-able as long as there is some upside for me. i.e. half down, then write, implement, test, tweak, get to goal, then pay remainder. Yes, I can do that.

I just have a problem with 5K upfront, then "we'll give it the ol college try...maybe."

There is also the question of "make that back in sales...by when?" If it take 6 months to make it back, I'm not further ahead.

But I agree....good sales copy is an investment.

Yeah, of course, if the copywriter doesn't have a track record of successful campaigns behind them, you wouldn't want to pay them $5, let alone $5k. But if I could hire a name copywriter for $5k and I didn't have the cash I'd beg borrow and steal to get the money.

    Hey David,

I don't think you need a new salesletter at all. Check your PMs for more details

    David,

The pros I know (myself included) never guarantee a certain conversion rate.

There are far too many factors not in our control for us to be able to do that.

Plus... ask any pro... we've all had clients who think their end of the funnel is perfect... refusing to believe for one second that anything but the copy could be at fault.

Now... no copywriter gets it right every time. But if guys like Vin Montello don't guarantee results... that should make you wary of anyone who does.
