Hey! I want to introduce myself

Ok, so I recently sold my company and stupidly I agreed to not work in the same industry (Video Games).

For the last few months, I haven't been sure what to do with myself. I started reading the blurbs on the side of Snapple/Water bottles and decided it would be fun to be a copy writer.

I sent a few resumes out and showed what I had done for my site NASL.TV(I'm not allowed to link it...grrr) and people were impressed. Since I had edited over like 150+ articles and wrote everything else on the site, I got a few "next stage" invitations.

I know I can market myself well. Because it's not what you say. Everyone says the same old cliche. It's just you have to not back down when you say it. Lol What a noob meta mistake. Or is it a mistake to question the mistake, let's get all Woody Allen in here.

Hell, I know I sell well. I sold my last comp for around 50k of personal gain. But I want to know from other good "text" salesmen, do I have what it takes to be an above-average copy writer? Oh man it's so hard not to be on....What I mean to say is, how is this?

Argh it's so arrogant. It's just I don't know when to let my guard down.

Anyway, if you have a cool freelance job or regular staffing, let me know what I could do to improve.

Well, at least you seem to have the attitude or mindset that
will help in your copywriting business. Sometimes that's the
one key factor between success and failure. I haven't seen
enough of your writing to give any advice.

How can I thank you. I know you haven't seen enough, but I'm really trying to learn how much is attitude and how much is skill? I know you can't succeed without both, but what matters more?

It's my humble opinion that in this business attitude matters most.
When I started offering my services online about 10 years ago,
five years after that I knew some copywriters who started by
asking $5,000 for a letter and got it!

I was surprised because I started at $300 and graduated to
      the 5-figure fees.

So what I'm saying is that if I had asked for more I probably
      would have gotten more.

It's all mindset. If you think that you deserve more then
you get more. Don't wait for anyone to qualify you. You
are as good as you THINK you are.

Obey! The giant would be proud. Of course, Shepard Fairy is such a gay name doesn't matter what campaign poster he envisions, it'll still be wanded by a fairy.

Copywriting/Marketing is an art, and a science. And like science and art it's always evolving and changing with the world and culture around it. What worked 25 years ago, doesn't work today. The technology, delivery, audience and attitude of consumers have changed...

This ever evolving, ever changing aspect of the marketing game is one I particularly enjoy. It forces you to adapt and overcome, to bend, twist, and stretch. To be successful, you must adapt. You adapt to be successful.

One day Jay Abraham is on top of the world with his direct mail success. Then the internet comes around and he's nobody. He grew old and rigid, unwilling to drop his pride from his previous successes to maintain his prodigy status in the new-age of internet marketing....

Suffice to say, your achievements thus far are impressive, just remember to adapt as things are changing constantly.

To address your question, which matters more -- skill or attitude? There's no answer to that which won't be an opinion in disguise as fact. And so, which do you like more, apples or oranges?

That's the funny thing. I know I'm worth 80k a year in this field, pff at least. I mean, I did this on the side because I didn't want to hire some one skilled at the required rates.

But it's real different being the employee and not being a singular talent.

I just deleted a whole lot of text. My conclusion is that I can write what they need to sell a whole lot of ****. Hell, I just sold $500,000 worth of youtube content (lol!), I'll make them some cash they can't just give up.

But I notice that a lot of people here write those annoying long format Obey! websites. I bet that Obey! website is super famous actually. Has anyone had a more traditional marketing job, you know the type where you come up with with those gay People magazine ads?

if you had a forum with quite good traffic you could earn a lots of traffic and with adsense you could make a lot of money
I feel bad as I thought my site was good, but looking at Alexa stats, you guys are doing a lot better.

We didn't have text forums but we streamed like 40 million hours of video content this year. It puts us in the top 1% of videos that don't star Justin Bieber.
