On a more serious note...

What importance do you place (if any) on creating hypnotic copy chops to nudge or cajole or otherwise persuade your readers to take the action you desire within the body of your sales copy?

  • For me the best way is research your target "prospect"

    Put yourself in their shoes and walk a mile.

    Then ask yourself...

    "What would absolutely persuade me to buy this product/ service?"

    When you've weaved the "answer" into your copy.

    Reassure and truly convince them - they have definitely - without a shadow of a doubt - made the right decision.

      Totally agree with Steve.

      Getting caught up with "clever" "hypnotic"
      often makes the copy the centre piece...when it's not.

      If you read the Coat Of Arms letter by Gary Halbert,
      the words don't get in the way of the message.

      Plain talk is used.

      It wouldn't of been one of the most mailed letters of all time
      if it didn't work.

    I have found some techniques of "hypnotic copy" very helpful for the flow of my web copy. I like Joe Vitale's Hypnotic Writing Swipe File...it's like a souped-up version of Bayan's Words That Sell.

          This might be the most important message you'll ever read..."



          Anyway, hypnotic words, power words, action verbs - call them whatever you like.

          All we're really trying to do - is write the best copy to sell the damn thing.

    Copy that calls attention to itself is not good copy.

    Ironically, plain, simple language is often the most "hypnotic".

    Why? Because it gets READ - with attention and full engagement.

    One of the most important lessons I've learned working so closely with David Garfinkel is applying his gift for SIMPLIFYING copy... stripping away all the puffery and $25 words in favor of plain, simple, easy to read language that reflects the way the prospect speaks (to themselves and others).

    What I find hypnotic is the charm of Gary Bencivenga's copy... it's monstrously powerful in its simplicity.
