It was back in the old days when you subscribed to “The Gary Halbert Letter”

One of them mentioned his favourite author John D Macdonald.

I got hooked and read the whole collection.

I moved on to Laurence Block and Donald E Westlake (aka Richard Stark).

Then lots of other “hard boiled,” “gumshoe” and “noir” books.

They're like copywriting turned into compelling fiction.

Tightly written, full of power verbs and cracking reads.

They certainly help inspire me when I write my stuff.

Anybody else experienced this with these types of novels?

If so, who are your favourites authors?
