Elance and oDesk Verification

Does it matter if you are verified on these sites? I want to market my writing services on these sites but the verification process is a hassle.

    Yes you must verify yourself on odesk and any other freelancing site. As if any employer if visit your profile he can easily recognized it whether your profile is verified or not. And generally verified freelancer is more important that non-verified, so just get verify yourself as it is not tough.

    I'm not verified on Elance. While I do think there is value to having the status, I agree with you that it's a hassle. But I have landed 2 jobs, and one has paid me a pretty substantial amount of money, so it's not been a hindrance, yet.

      I am verified on both sites. I was actually hired for one job on Elance before I became verified however. I also agree that it is a hassle.

    I do not recall being verified on Elance, but yes on oDesk.

    Odesk does not hold you back on coming up with good contracts if you are not verified. I am not verified on Odesk too, yet I landed 6 contracts already.

    I do not have reputation back then too, yet people or clients hired me even without the verification. I think what The clients are seeking on these sites are your competency that can be proven by your portfolio, profile and the some tests that you can answer which are also provided by Odesk.

    You would not lose anything if you do not get verified though.

    Verification matters to enhance your credibility. Plus you get to bid on more projects.
