Cool! Interesting how it's always the same templated pitch with these guys...

He basically just says, "Hi Billy Mays here for [insert different product here]. It's amazing because [reasons #1-10]"

      True.

They found a formula that worked and stuck with it.

On video the 'how' can play a part. But the words need to be the right ones.

If it's in print then the 'what' is a heck of a lot more important.

Exactly. I'm sure they never ran a print ad with Billy Mays' photo until after his infomercials became popular.

This might be a dumb question, but did Billy Mays write -- or help write -- the ads? Or was he just an actor?

Not sure if he wrote, or helped write, the ads. But he wasn't an actor.

He was a salesman and had his own promotion company.

As far as I know his main job was to promote his clients' products via direct response ads on TV.

I think the programs, pitchmen, was about him and his partner(s). Not sure though because I never actually saw them.

Yeah, "actor" was the wrong term. I should have said "pitchman."
