Copywriting? Do I really Need It?

This is for people that may not know why they need copy writing, or how it can help your business...

-------------------------------

Many of you are faced with the problem of creating a sales letter that gets results. Many of you aren't even sure you need a copywriter or why its imperative that you choose the right one (or how much to pay). And many of you may not be sure why copy writing is important in the first place.

Heres why.

Copy writing is persuasion, with words.

Persuasion could be one of the most important skills you can learn in life. Weather you're trying to get someone to agree with you in a debate, asking that girl/guy out on a date, getting a deal to go through, persuading a co-worker to except your idea, an interview for a job, trying get your kids to do the right thing...

If you notice it or not, persuasion is used in everyday life and in all different situations. As a individual, you are always marketing yourself and communicating with other people, so its obvious you'd want the upper hand, knowing how to persuade others to your advantage.

Some people are good persuading others verbally, non- verbally, or in this case, with words. Copy writing, as stated earlier, is persuasion with words. And if persuasion in general is important in life, your copy writing should be a priority with your business.

If you have a good product, with a good offer, then you NEED good copy writing to sell and market your product or service. If you can not persuade others to your advantage, then odds are, you might not get very far in business, or in life...

The moral is- Persuasion is part of the keys to success. In life and in business. Learn it.

Great advice, learning and understanding persuasion is a must.

Every marketer needs to read 'Influence' by Robert Cialdini. He talks about the 6 principles of influence and persuasion.

I've nearly finished reading it and it has blown me away. Every principle is used in good copywriting.

    1. Reciprocation
    2. Commitment and Consistency
    3. Social Proof
    4. Liking
    5. Authority
    6. Scarcity

You'll read about real life case studies where each principle is used in that book, can't recommend it enough!

Thanks for the tip. I've heard that book recommended many times, but haven't had a chance to pick it up yet. I am familiar with the principle's you mention and its always good to hear it from another view point.

Being that persuasion interests me, so does conversational hypnosis, NLP, and other covert mind tricks. Can't get enough of it

          Nice post!

LOL I didn't even know the word copywriting existed when I first got started.

My writing used to read like a thesis report...customers and prospects run the moment they finish the first paragraph.

Persuasion is indeed important, you have to weave it throughout whatever you write.

          Persuasion = power

Persuasion is a skill. Definitely writing persuasively can be difficult. Anyone can improve this ability provided they know what they are doing and just practice. Take Action!

I wouldn't assume that. You have no idea who is viewing this forum.

Not everyone might not be familiar with how persuasion effects their life and business. I know this is a copy writing forum, but this post is not just about copy writing.

That's just a small portion of the persuasion world and I'm sure you're aware of that. Persuasion effects you in everyday communication. And everyday you are being persuaded.

If you can effectively communicate and persuade people with out them knowing you will have an upper hand in life. Not just in copy writing. If you could persuade everyone to your way of thinking, wouldn't life be easier in all aspects?

In my opinion, persuasion could be one of the most, if not, the most important skill one can learn in life.

Ahhh...persuasion..."upper hand in life"...."persuade everyone to your way of thinking"...

"Wouldn't life be easier in all aspects?"

            Only if you are omniscient.

If you could persaude everyone to your way of thinking, you'd never know when you are WRONG.

If you could persuade everyone to your way of thinking, you'd never learn anything.

If you could persuade everyone to your way of thinking, you'd create a bunch of you-robots -- I don't care who the "you" is -- but I'd find that boring.

I'm sure that isn't what you had in mind -- but some people, due to their insecurities, view persuasion as being well, a bit of an idea bully.

That can be true and false, depending how you look at it. Obviously, I didn't mean it in that context. No one can persuade everyone.

Do you agree persuasion is one of the most important skill in ones life? Being able to communicate effectively?

If you could persuade everyone to your way of thinking, you'd create a bunch of you-robots -- I don't care who the "you" is -- but I'd find that boring.

Thats true. Religion in general is a cult like organization and produces a bunch of "robots" as well. Persuasion at its finest .

I'm sure that isn't what you had in mind -- but some people, due to their insecurities, view persuasion as being well, a bit of an idea bully.

Thats exactly what I didn't have in mind . These insecure people are obviously viewing persuasion in the wrong light. Persuasion goes both ways- negative and positive.

Is persuading your kids to not hang around drugs, being a bully?

Not only can you do good with persuasion skills, but you can also protect yourself against it. Obviously, you know this, but needs to be stated.

*shrug*. Just taking you at your word. Everyone, to me, means...well...everyone...

Do you agree persuasion is one of the most important skill in ones life? Being able to communicate effectively?
Not exactly. Effective persuasion, to me, is the result of state & congruence -- not the result of a bunch of "tricks". During my heyday of studying NLP, it was clear that there was power in what I was being taught. It took soul-searching at that time, and it continues to this day, about whether I have the worthiness to influence others in powerful ways. Integrity in influencing is a huge piece for me. I do not want to influence people in ways that are not beneficial to them.

That is a huge, enormous, generalization. I'm sorry you've not had the experience of religion at it's finest. There is unfathomable riches in most religious traditions that give lie to the idea that religion creates robots. And, if I hallucinate what you mean by what you wrote above, that sort of "persuasion" has a huge sociological component -- that also occurs in other organizations, such as the military.

At the very least, religion is not, in general, the result of one person attempting to influence another. Those are called cults. Rather different beast.

The best way of "persuading" one's kids is by example.

Thats right, i just type with out thinking sometimes as im doing multiple tasks at once, my mind is all over the place. Need to get my ADD in check

Not exactly. Effective persuasion, to me, is the result of state & congruence -- not the result of a bunch of "tricks". So you don't believe persuasion/influence is one of the most important skills one can have, to have success in life and business? Effective communication is very important in life and some successful people do agree persuasion is one of the most important.

That is a huge, enormous, generalization. I'm sorry you've not had the experience of religion at it's finest. There is unfathomable riches in most religious traditions that give lie to the idea that religion creates robots. I've already done the religion thing and its not for me. I see right through it. It can be good for some, but you do not need religion to have a good afterlife (if thats what you believe).

Most religions state you must believe (shaping your beliefs) certain things or you go to hell (their goes the fear motive). Wars are even started because of religions or "gods". Self preservation is #1, on motives list for buying, and religions, in a sense fulfill this as you will be granted into a good "afterlife" and will continue to live happily (after you "die").

There are many other persuasion techniques that are carefully employed, but honestly, I do not want to get into any religion debate. Just showing how it is a big business- and big businesses do use powerful persuasion tactics (covertly).

And you're right, their are many organizations that use these same tricks as well.

The best way of "persuading" one's kids is by example.

Another form of persuasion, exactly. But I'd have to disagree with that being the best way to persuade a kid. This is just from experience as well as other experiences. If what you say is 100% true, it failed miserably with me- maybe it works different with each person?

The original point of the post was to state persuasion in general is one of the most important skills one can learn to achieve success in life and business. Most businesses need communication to be successful. Most people, to enjoy a good social life, and dating life, need to communicate successfully. Why are you saying persuasion is not one of the most important skills one can learn in life?

What other skills do you believe one might study that might have more effect than persuasion in business and life?

I also believe "tv" is nothing more than a mind control device, but that can be saved for a different thread.
