How much per article?

Hi,

I'm about to engage a writer who can focus on writing articles for my website.

The problem is that the writer has little or no knowledge about internet marketing but he is an excellent writer.

So, I want to ask what is the price of each article that I should pay him for?

I wouldn't hire a writer who didn't have experience in the field. Take a look at technical writing or greeting cards or or cooking or anything else. If you were to find the best in a field unrelated to IM, why would you consider hiring them for your project? Skill in one specialty does not translate to skill in another.

I'll chime in as devil's advocate here (seeing as I'm new to the site and all)...

I can't really tell you what to charge because that should really be something you discuss privately with the writer. However, I will say that if you haven't already, get a quote from him. If it seems reasonable, then let him go ahead and write the article and have him post it somewhere as a sample. If you like it then purchase it.

Many writers I know don't write for free but they are willing to provide the client with a custom sample on the terms that it's purchased if it's what the buyer is looking for. Most of them use their websites or blogs to post samples for potential clients.

I've never had to do this because I am always able to provide a client with a previously published sample that gives them an overview of my talents and what I am proficient in (one of which is Internet Marketing and B2B Marketing).

I'm sure it's not popular opinion but ask your writer to write the article anyway and come up with a reasonable price for the piece. If you like their writing and have confidence (and they are a good writer) they should be able to research the topic well enough to provide you with fitting material for your site.

        That's my $.02

        Good luck!

Well the articles don't seem to be about internet marketing . You can ask him to write the article sand then ask for changes depending on what keywords you want etc .

I have marketers ask me all the time to write on topics that are new to me. Haven't disappointed anybody yet. If the writer is able to research, and knows what article submission sites want, they should be capable off pulling it off quite professionally, provided they're willing to take the time to learn a little about the topic. It would be too bad to let a great writer get away.

              Precisely.

              Ideas:

Pay him/her by the word, the maximum count to be agreed upon. You want depth? Depth takes time, you pay for it. Consider a quality premium if he/she scores a bulls-eye.

Thanks so much for your replies, appreciate your help.

I have a better idea now. It's time to outsource article writing, I simply can't write well.
