Hello there

I'm a fresh copywriter, so I'm in need of your expertise please.

A family friend is going to start a restaurant. He asked me to write the menu for him. He already gave me all the needed info, even the prices are set.

I wanted to know how to put a price for this. Per word? Per Section? Orders?

Also, he asked for the following:

Comments Card
Invoice (the bottom line)
Tasters Survey

I would be very grateful for your help.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you're asking how you should charge for this project?

If so, I would suggest you give him a quote for the project rather than by word or section etc...

A good way to do this is if you know how much you want to charge as a minimum per hour and estimate how long it will take you to finish the project and then add on 25% for edits...

So, if you're wanting to charge a minimum of $100 an hour for arguments sake, and it's a 4 hour job, you would ask for $500 (4 x $100 = $400 and add on 25% which is $100)

It's not a hard or fast rule, but certainly a great place to start.
    I hope that helps.

  • As Arfa suggested, charge by the project. And once you determine the amount, double it. Most new copywriters under charge by a lot.

It will take longer than you think with all the changes. Especially for a new business. Even more for a restaurant.

This sure does help, but I'm not sure if I should charge by the hour, because it is not very common in here when doing business. But I'm sure going to charge for edits because that will be the hard/boring part.

Thanks so much for your suggestion, I'll see if I can actually work this way, it will be fair for both sides.

I agree on that, I under charge to get new clients, that's why I'm asking what is the deal and how things usually go, so I could charge them fair and not send them away.

      Thanks again, both of you.
