Has anyone ever done any studies of hypnotic writing? I'm just wondering because I got the idea of hypnotic writing in business from Joe Vitale in his book Hypnotic Writing.

In that book he says that he got a lot of his ideas relating to the topic of hypnotic writing from reading the book Unlimited Selling Power.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with it at all or knows much about the topic?

I've been reluctant to say anything about it to anyone because most people just don't understand as to what hypnosis and NLP are or even as to who some of the key players were behind the creation of NLP and hypnosis

When most people think about hypnosis most people tend to think of a room with a couch that you lie down on while you spill your guts to a therapist or they think that it is done with someone dangling a watch in front of them and asking them to count backwards until they are in a trance. Those are popular stereotypes, but they are nowhere near the truth.

Joe's calling it hypnotic writing, in my opinion, is more about spin. It's a way of phrasing it to make it sound mysterious; It sells books -- Not to be confused with it being some actual new animal.

Such as when Vogue first invented the disease "cellulite." It's the same old fat cells as before but this new branding started an (imaginary) epidemic -- that paid handsomely.

The following link gets posted often by me. But, quite frankly, it's the first answer to so many copywriting questions:

I'm a big fan of the Gary Halbert letter. But in that issue, that's just not reality anymore. Gary Halbert was a trail-blazer in his day. What he was doing was akin to using alien technology. Nowadays, most markets worth selling into are full of copywriters and people with decent copywriting skills. So to say that by reading those books and applying his info that you'll become a copywriter with mad skills doesn't apply to today. Copywriting is to a great degree, a skill. It's something that must be consciously practiced for many years to get real good at, if you want to shine in the marketplace.

I'd agree with that point. I should've added a caveat to my sharing it. It won't make you a world-class copywriter. But I'd still say do what he is saying to do. It will go a lot further than all these courses I see online... or, the more common, picking through free blog posts and e-mails for scraps.

The whole NLP/Hypnotic writing thing is nothing but spin.
