Lies. When is it too much?

Interesting observation I made just today.

A very successful weight loss product on Clickbank has made a few changes in their 'story' the last year or two.

The woman who was once the 'Drs' wife, is now just a 'favourite patient'.

Furthermore, his own name has changed somewhere along the line.

I'm assuming he doesn't have a 'clinic' either, but perhaps he does.

Am I the only one that finds this sort of thing a little weird?

Can't people be themselves online, or is it just about the sale and any story will do?

    People lie all the time in sales, internet marketing especially so (since it is so easy to hide your true identity).

    It isn't that big a deal in terms of the other lies that are spouted.

    In my eyes, though, changing those sort of details could be detrimental to your credibility if people find out.

    Did you read the fine print? Sometimes marketers will place in the
    fine print that the stories are not real but illustrative. I don't know
    the copy you are referring to but I know many marketers would
    use such stories and 'disclaim' it in the disclaimer.

    I'm not justifying the practice but just illuminating it.
